How to play Frozen Synapse 2: tactics and unit guide

Frozen Synapse 2 tactical tips and unit types

Frozen Synapse 2 is a recently released turn-based strategy game. In battle, you control a small detachment of seemingly toy soldiers, but capable of following complex plans. In the single player campaign – represent one of the factions fighting for influence in the city of Markov Geist. So, here are some useful elements of tactics and commands for units.

Positioning . Pay attention to the location of the units, both yours and the enemy. Melee units should be placed in front or on the flanks. Place your ranged soldiers at a distance, but not along the flanks. Mercenaries with explosive weapons should be placed next to those using bullet weapons. You shouldn’t shrink – the squad will die from one grenade or rocket, but you shouldn’t scatter – they will shoot them separately. There is a balance that can be achieved through practice.

Murder time . During a firefight, it takes some time for the enemy unit to be at gunpoint and within range. Each type of unit has its own kill time, which depends on cover, movement and aiming. Moving units naturally spend more time dealing damage. Killing units behind cover also takes longer. But the kill, if the unit is already targeted, goes much faster.

“Aiming” (Focus, Aim) is a command for units. Works in two modes – aiming at a point and focusing on a zone. Targeting slows the soldier, but greatly increases the potential kill time. You can cancel aiming to return to normal speed.

“Squat” (Duck) – a task that makes it possible to hide behind shelters with a height of half a wall. The partition protects units if they are behind it.

“Dash” (Continue on Sight) – a task that accelerates the unit, but makes it impossible for him to shoot.

Now let’s list the types of units, their relative properties.

Unit types

Melee units

Melee units are several units with characteristic properties: they have either very high or very low kill rate. They are defenseless in open spaces. Very fast. These include soldiers with:

  • knives (Knife),
  • pistols (Pistol),
  • submachine guns (SMG),
  • shotguns (Shotgun).

Medium combat units

Medium combat units are a class of units with their own characteristics: they are generally universal, have an average kill rate of enemy units. This class includes mercenaries with automatic rifles (AR).

Ranged units

Ranged units are a type of unit with characteristics: they perform well in open spaces, they have a low kill rate, they are very slow. Very much attention must be paid to the position, because in close combat they are vulnerable. This type includes

  • snipers (eng. Sniper),
  • soldier with turrets (English Turret).

Demolition units

Units with explosive weapons hit zones, some can damage walls, slow ones, but they just have nothing to shoot with. Excellent for both support and damage to the main forces of the enemy. This type includes

  • miners (Minelayer),
  • operators of smoke screen installations (Smoke Launcher),
  • mercenaries with grenade launchers (Grenade Launcher),
  • operators of poisoning installations (Toxic Launcher),
  • rockets (Rocket Launcher).

Units with impact area

These units affect the surrounding location. They can instantly hit the enemy’s forces, but are immobile during the attack. it

  • flamethrowers (Flamethrower),
  • machine gunners (Minigun),
  • units with a shield (Riot Shield).

These are all the unit options and some tactical elements in Frozen Synapse 2. Happy game!
