BATTALION 1944 – beginner’s guide

A few important tips for an online first person shooter in a WW2 setting

BATTALION 1944 is a multiplayer first-person shooter set in World War II from Bulkhead Interactive, a group of studios based in several European countries. There are several PvP modes in the game: “Team battle”, “Domination”, “Capture the flag” and “Front line”. In addition to team battles, users can also compete in a duel mode.

The developers are constantly improving their project: they fix various errors, supplement the arsenal with weapons, and also rework and create new game maps. Of the weapons, by the way, the player has access to a large number of different guns from the Second World War. In this guide, we have prepared basic tips that will come in handy in both team and solo battles.

Use cover

In most of these projects, users tend to ignore an important element of the game – shelter. The fact is that all BATTALION 1944 maps are small compared to other popular shooters, so it is very important to always be in cover, or at least not far from a place behind which you can hide. Such objects can be any boxes, metal barrels or concrete structures.

Choose your play style

First of all, you need to decide which style of play is most suitable for you: stay behind the group and cover your teammates, or run ahead of them and kill all the enemies you meet. Supporting allies from the rear is an integral part of Capture the Flag, when a fighter with a captured object is most vulnerable compared to other team members and needs constant cover.

Sniper rifles

Since the action takes place during the Second World War, of course, there are no collimators and special sighting devices other than optical sights in the game. Using a standard front sight is not very convenient, and shooting from the hip will certainly reduce accuracy and increase the spread of cartridges. This type of shooting is suitable at short distances from machine guns and shotguns.

For long distances, it is vital to use a rifle with a telescopic sight – this applies to bolt-action sniper rifles. It is important to understand that even a cannon with a sighting device has a certain timing for entering the aiming mode. At first, players find it difficult to get used to aiming, so users often “wait” for the enemy in the scope in advance. This can have a negative impact on the game, since looking through the telescopic sight the sniper can only observe the line of sight. Such onlookers are mostly killed from the rear, so if you are playing as a team, it is important to have cover in the person of one or more allies.

Usually, information about the location of a lone sniper quickly spreads among opponents, and after each enemy killed, the user will be forced to change position.

Use grenades

As in any other shooter, throwing a grenade can play a decisive role in a firefight from behind cover, especially if several fighters of the opposite team meet on the way. But in addition to a fragmentation grenade, the player can also use a smoke grenade. In most of these projects, smoke grenades are not very popular and are often ignored by users. In BATTALION 1944, such a projectile creates not only thick smoke through which practically nothing can be seen, but also blinds all soldiers within a certain radius during an explosion. Use them to cover your comrades or to change position inconspicuously.
