When will the ‘Pending’ message disappear in the Instagram request?
After sending a request to a private Instagram profile, you will notice that the ‘Follow’ button will change to the ‘Pending’ status , this is because your follow-up is sent in the form of a request. This last message will disappear once the person you asked to follow accepts or declines your follow-up request.

When someone declines a follow request on Instagram, it will disappear and I get pending status.
