Their diet, customs and habitat are very curious, so it is worth knowing them a little more.

Where does the clownfish live?

This is without a doubt the most incredible relationship of a fish with its environment. The clown fish is also known as “anemone fish”, because in their original place, in the Pacific Ocean , they live among coral reefs , which are full of anemones .

The peculiarity is that these types of plants release a lethal toxin for most fish, but not for clown fish , which hide under these plants, cleaning them of parasites and debris, while protecting themselves from other predators.

Clownfish diet

It is a type of predatory fish , that is, it chases its prey to devour them, although it does not only consume live food, if you want to include it in an aquarium, you can choose the following foods:

  • Small-sized crustaceans ( mussels, squid, prawns, cockles , etc.).
  • Seaweed and spinach . The latter can be eaten even cooked.
  • Parasites that appear in anemones .
  • Octopus .

The above will be very determined depending on the size of the fish ; those who are smaller will opt for the comfort of the anemones , hardly ever going out or hunting any absent-minded prey that approaches the vicinity.

When they grow up they can travel several meters in search of new food, but never straying too far from the anemones, in case a predator manages to reach them.

How to take care of a clown fish

In addition to a  good diet , with quality feed, varied and fresh foods, you must take into account the following:

  • Include anemones in the aquarium . After what you have read, you should know that they love these plants. They will always keep them clean and by the way you will ensure that they do not get bored . Keep in mind that you will have to put an anemone for each clown fish you include (otherwise they will fight).
  • Lots of water . They need space to go for food, as they are very active fish. You will need a minimum of 75 liters per clown fish .
  • Water temperature . They are used to tropical waters , with temperatures around  24-27 degrees , so you will have to buy your aquarium with a temperature regulator .
