Rust grating: an overview
A grating in Rust is an installable item that can only be placed in a ceiling frame. There are two types of decks – triangular for triangular frames, and square for square ones. Once installed, the decks cannot be picked up. Of course, they cannot guarantee you 100% protection of your stove, since they have the same strength as a metal door, but at least some protection is better than no protection at all.

Both gratings in Rust can be found in 4 containers with a small chance:
- Sunken chest– 1%
- Box– 1%
- Oil RigScientist – 0.2%
- Underground dweller– 0.2%
After you find the flooring, you will need to study it. This can be done on the study table for 75 units of scrap metal. You can also use the Tier 1 Workbench and Study Line to research a regular grating for 325 scrap, or a triangular deck for an additional 75 scrap (400 total).
How to craft
Rust crafting is possible only if you have a workbench of the first level or higher. Crafting requires metal fragments. Both decks consume 75 metal fragments to craft. The time to create 1 flooring can vary from 7 to 30 seconds, depending on the workbench used.
How to install in the game
To install the decking, you will need ceiling frames, of which in game 2. If you want to install a triangular flooring, put a triangular frame. Need a square flooring – put a square frame. It’s simple. After installing the frames, equip the flooring in the quick slot, grab it in your hands and point the camera at the frame you want. You will see a blue “Projection” of the flooring – this means that the installation of the flooring is possible, and all you need to do is click on the left mouse button.

Recycling the flooring at the recycler will give you a total of 38 metal fragments. Not too much, but if metal is urgently needed, in particular at the initial stages of the game, then why not recycle the unnecessary flooring?
How to get in admin mode
Administrators can use the item console to retrieve the decks from there. This can be done in the “Constructions” section, where both decks are located.
Gratings are mostly useless. Their application is too narrowly targeted. The only place where they can be used is over a large stove. In other cases, the flooring does not help at all. The question is, why put on a kind of “Ceiling”, which is no more difficult to break than to blow up a sheet metal door . It is better then to put a full-fledged ceiling, which can be improved even to an armored level.
