One of the most anticipated horror adventures of this season finally lands on all current gaming platforms. Remothered: Broken Porcelain is a rather suggestive production that follows in the footsteps of its predecessor … but has been released with too many problems and bugs.

Those who enjoyed Remothered: Tormented Fathers were surely left with a very rewarding feeling. And it is that this production that was seen a couple of years ago in the same formats that this continuation appears (all, basically) surprised a multitude of players for various reasons: its fascinating and disturbing history, its playable mechanics that recalled the best times of survival horror , or a modest but very well conceived graphic section.

 

The response from both players and the trade press was almost unanimous, with both groups praising the work done by Stormind Games and its original creator, Chris Darril. This success guaranteed a continuation, which has just arrived. Remothered: Broken Porcelain was for many of us one of the most anticipated games of the year within its genre, and I don’t think I’m exaggerating too much with this statement. A title that was destined to become one of the proper names of this beginning of the pre-Christmas season but that, unfortunately, a too hasty launchHe has moved away from said previous provision more than it hurts us the followers of this horror franchise. But before starting, it should be noted that this installment links directly with what happened in the original in everything related to the global plot and narrative.

 

It is possible to enter this story without having played the previous one , but I recommend that you at least take a look at the summary of it that is possible to contemplate in this second chapter. Without wanting to go into too much detail about the plot to avoid spoilers, I will only tell you that the story takes place during the 70s in a den called Ashmann Inn and that the protagonist is a young woman named Jennifer. A girl who will not hesitate to try to escape her seclusion … but who will not have it easy at all. And the thing is that this place is infested with crazy guys who don’t think for a second about hunting us down as soon as they detect us. A script that by the way (and despite its not very fine translation into our language) seems to us the best thing that this adventure monopolizes and that is full of surprises, nods to the past and very tense moments.

In essence and now entering playable matter, we are facing a survival horror of the old days, although its disposition also inherits a lot from what was recreated in other more modern works such as the Outlast series . Stealth is the main foundation on which the gameplay restsSince the girl we control lacks the physical strength to stand up to the crazy people who chase her, so most of the time we have to manage to go unnoticed. Yeah, but what happens if they discover us? Well that depends on the moment of the adventure in which we find ourselves and, also, how full we have the inventory. In general, his thing is to escape as long as possible and try to corner our pursuers, being able to hide in certain places (such as closets, for example) to avoid being hunted. At the beginning of the adventure, this way of proceeding will be the usual one.

It’s a shame that technical and playable problems have diminished the quality of this work because its essence is really good.

Fortunately, as we move forward, it is possible to use certain objects and items to defend ourselves, such as scissors or even some more powerful weapons that can be used to temporarily get rid of rivals or even damage them. By proxy, it is even possible to make defensive objects or even decoys to mislead the brains that swarm through the different rooms of the sinister rehabilitated hotel in which we are. In addition and to provide more packaging to the gameplay, It is also possible to improve some of Jennifer’s abilities so that she becomes more silent or better detect rivals, for example. The exploration therefore also becomes a fundamental piece of the gameplay, since if we are not able to find according to which items, our journey through the interior of the center where the adventure takes place becomes more stormy.

 

But not only that. It is also necessary to find key objects such as keys or boxes that facilitate our progress, as well as various curious collectibles that allow us to access certain extras and accessories … and that incidentally slightly expand the duration of the game (approximately six hours).

The Ashmann Inn compound plays host to a varied and engrossing horror adventure with puzzles, stealth, action and surprises in between.

Along with all this, it is also necessary to solve the odd puzzle that adds even more diversity to the gaming experience, although none of them are particularly ingenious or complicated. And of course, to the whole it is necessary to add the inevitable scares and, also, a sense of anguish and even almost continuous helplessness that may not be to the taste of the most sensitive users. With all this that I just mentioned, surely many of you will be rubbing your hands over how good this playable proposal sounds. And it is that in theory it is a very attractive title … or, at least, it should have been, but unfortunately the execution has failed miserably to the point of loading the game experience almost completely.

 

The defects, technical problems and bugs that this production has are as frustrating and abundant in some cases as curious and secondary in others. The list is almost endless, but I will give you mere examples to give you an idea of ​​the level of disaster that I am talking about: problems with camera tracking (and many times in the worst moments, such as during chases), failures in the control system that prevent us from even moving at times, erratic behavior of the adversaries, sound that comes and goes … Such is the lack of polish with which the title has appeared on the market that it is difficult to play and, of course , even less enjoyable. He should never have been launching in such a precarious state that he isit is closer to what betas usually bring us than the final versions .

Despite being a low-budget title, its setting is very successfulA real shame about a product that, yes, I have hopes that it will be corrected at least in good part by means of the corresponding patches that I want to think that will arrive over the days and weeks (there is much to improve). And if they manage to solve at least the most important errors, the note that you can contemplate would have to be raised several points because, I insist, the base of the title is quite good , as the first installment of this saga already demonstrated. In addition, and despite being a low-budget title, its setting is quite successful and the recreation of the environments is relatively convincing, although everything else (such as the modeling of the characters, the environmental effects, etc.) is purely functional.

It is a shame to contemplate how, from time to time, quite striking and even prominent titles land on the market that, because of the rush, end up being a cluster of errors and nonsense that destroy the work done by the developers. Remothered: Broken Porcelain is a fairly obvious example of this situation, an adventure that has all the wickers to be attractive within its genre but that the lack of polish in general and its sad execution condemn it to the depths of ostracism. A horror production that cries out for patches to correct the many technical errors it has.
