Outer Wilds Guide

As far as completing the main plot of Outer Wilds , it will probably take you at least 10 hours to complete. However, a more accurate estimate depends on how quickly you solve the main puzzles. And if you try to find all the clues in the Universe, then the game can take all 25 hours. Also, the final credits can be seen earlier, if you get to the “bad ending” rather than trying to find the Eye of the Universe.

There are a total of 10 planets in the game, including satellites, but you can get to the last one only after moving along the storyline. Many planets have unique features that make them different from the rest. Largely thanks to this, the developers managed to create a variety of puzzles.

Check out our list of planets:

  • Camelek,
  • Waste heap,
  • Deeps of the Giant,
  • Void Sphere,
  • Void lamp,
  • Blackthorn,
  • The hour of ash
  • Coal hour
  • Stranger,
  • Quantum Moon.

How to get to the Solar Station

To begin with, we note that there are two ways to get there, but only one of them we can really recommend for all beginners. The second is more suitable for professionals and masters of spacecraft control. You need to travel to the planet Hour of Ash, located near the Sun, before the Hour of Coal. This planet is shrouded in sand.

Some time after the start of the cycle, you will see a sand column connecting the Hour of Ash to the Hour of Coal. In fact, the sand from the first planet pours out onto the second, filling its core and depths. As the sand level decreases in the Hour of Ash, you will notice several towers.

The screenshot below shows a tower that will help you get to the solar station. As soon as you notice it, wait for the sand to pour out onto the neighboring planet. Ultimately, a bridge will appear leading to the ruined entrance.

Walk to the other side of the solar station tower and watch out for the torch column. You will soon notice another entrance. Head through it and go right. If you tighten it, the way inside the tower will be blocked by cacti.

Follow along. The sand will cover the cacti that you can walk on. Follow the path to the right and reach a gravity portal. Go through it to get to the room with the black hole core. Stand on it and look up. When the sun appears over the tower, the platform will deform, and you will find yourself at the solar station.

The second way to get to the Solar Station

If you want to put your pilot skills to the test, fly straight to the Solar Station orbiting the Sun. It orbits very quickly, making it incredibly difficult to land on it. You need to align the ship with the station orbit and achieve the ideal speed and time.

How to save

Outer Wilds uses unusual game mechanics, reminiscent of the famous work “Groundhog Day”. Every 20 minutes there is an explosion of a star in your solar system, which leads to the destruction of all planets and the death of the protagonist. However, he instantly wakes up on his home planet as if nothing had happened.

There is no manual save option in the game. Instead, a system of automatic saves works. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work very often. In fact, progress is saved every time you complete the cycle (the sun is reborn). After each death of the system, you will see that very statue from the museum, with three eyes. It will rewind you all the actions that have been done in the last 20 minutes. All the rumors you have collected about the planets of the system are saved in the logbook.

If you want to urgently save, you can kill your hero. Soaring high into the sky, land abruptly on the planet to fall to the surface of the earth. Death ends the cycle, autosave kicks in and your new 20 minutes begins.

How to recover fuel

There are 2 ways to refuel a jetpack. It all depends on where exactly you are in the solar system when the fuel runs out. The first and most convenient is the refueling station inside the spacecraft. Go inside and pay attention to the small compartment to the right of the cockpit. From here you take and return the suit. There is also a gas station.

There is a first aid kit and a fuel tank to the left of the stand. Interact with the latter to refuel. This will also allow you to restore health points lost during your absence from the ship.

It also happens that the fuel supplies run out far from the spacecraft. Hope for the best, as only luck and luck will help you find jetpack fuel tanks on the planet. Come up and interact with them.

What happens if you run out of fuel

Don’t worry too much. Even if the fuel runs out, the satchel can still be used. In this case, he will begin to consume oxygen. Yes, this is not an ideal solution, but better than getting stuck at the bottom of a crater. Oxygen can be replenished by visiting the ship or standing next to trees on any of the planets.

How to get inside the Tower of Quantum Knowledge

The first thing to do is determine where it is. You are interested in the Void Sphere, and the tower itself is located among the trees. The upper part is a dull building with a grate on top through which you can look down.

The best way to track her location is to use a signal repeater and target the quantum vibrations coming from the Void Sphere. You will reach one of three mysterious rocks that move as you look at them. One of these stones is located next to the tower, so as soon as you see it, know that you are there.

But once you find the tower, you won’t be able to figure out where the entrance is. If you go down the elevator to the entrance, then you will find yourself at the bottom of the tower, but then the gravity wall will break everything. Wait for a while. You may have noticed that at the end of the 20-minute cycle, when everything explodes, some of the planets are partially changing. In the case of the Void Orb, you can get inside the tower.

The part of the planet on which the tower is located will fall into a black hole 10-15 minutes after the main character wakes up. Thus, get to the right place and wait for all this to happen. There is a lot of information hidden inside that will help unravel the mystery of the Nomiads and understand what they were doing in relation to the Quantum Moon and the Eye of the Universe.

How to hide from the Angler

This monster can only be found on the planet Blackthorn. In particular, it is in the “core” of the planet, which is somewhat reminiscent of a seed. When you follow inside, you will be shrouded in thick fog. All that can be seen are dark vines and glowing lights (seeds). The problem is that some of the lights may not be what you think. These are monsters hiding in the darkness, preparing to attack.

You need to use a signal repeater to determine the direction in which to move. For example, if you’re looking for Spar, then use the harmonica sound. If you are looking for a nomiad escape pod, you need to change the frequency to a distress signal.

Once you determine the direction, fly the ship a little, but do not rush. Anglers are blind so they cannot see you, but they pick up noise sources. If you run into one of the monsters, then after a few seconds he will scream and rush in your direction. It is necessary to start the engines of the spacecraft or jetpack as smoothly as possible, making a minimum of noise. Lightly touch the WASD to adjust the direction of travel.

Drift slowly through the misty depths until you reach your goal. You will not be able to do all this right away, but after a few attempts you will definitely get your hand in it.

How to get inside the High Energy Laboratory at Coal Hour

Unfortunately, getting inside the High Energy Laboratory is much more difficult than getting to its entrance at the south pole of the planet Hour of Coal. Unfortunately, the door is broken, and another way must be found inside. You need to look for an entrance through the Sunless City. The problem is also connected with the fact that the planet Hour of Ash begins to cover this city with sand and most routes become inaccessible. We’ll have to act quickly.

Find the gravity cannon on the surface of the Coal Hour. It is a giant cone-shaped (cylindrical) structure sticking out from the planet’s surface. Next, you need to pay attention to the part of the planet that has two rounded edges with a small gap.

It is here that there is a secret passage that will allow you to quickly get to the Sunless City. There are other ways to get to it, but if you want to get to the High Energy Laboratory, you need to enter the city as soon as possible. And this is the right option!

Go to the shadow, which is circled in blue in the screenshot. You will be taken to the room. Use the jetpack to fly through the gap and open the door. Do not go left, otherwise you will perish due to contact with ghostly matter.

You need to be quick as the sand will start filling the caves and rooms. Go downstairs to the main room of the Sunless City. You must find a door on the first floor that can be opened with a strange ball-shaped device. Do this and go deeper. Then you will find yourself at an abyss with sand falling from above and cacti on the other side. Wait for the sand to fill the ravine and cover the cacti so that you can safely walk on.

Do not try to jump, as the sand will simply push you into the hole. There will be a fork behind the abyss. Take the left route and follow the blue glowing line to the next room. Find the portal directly in front of you, go through it and find yourself in the laboratory.

How to find Spar on Blackthorn planet

Like other explorers who have traveled the solar system, you can track Spar’s location using a signal repeater. It allows you to hear the sound of a musical instrument. Pat plays the harmonica and was last seen on the planet Blackthorn. This is the first place to check.

As soon as you find yourself in place, you will realize that this planet is not like any other from the system. It is destroyed and torn apart by a dark plant that has consumed the earth. You need to take a chance and get to the core of this place.

On site, use a signal repeater to track the harmonica. Monsters may appear here. Their glowing “eyes” (although Anglers are actually blind) are visible in the dark. Take your time, gently press the acceleration of the engine to make a minimum of sound. Spar has set up his camp on the skeleton of one of these monsters. He sits by the fire and plays the harmonica.

How to land on the Quantum Moon

Since this strange Moon constantly appears and disappears, it is impossible to just take and fly to it. Instead, you need to photograph the moon with your scout drone. The device must first be launched into space. Do this when you spot the moon. Open the image on the screen of the ship.

Instead of a normal landing, photography needs to overcome the gloomy atmosphere of the moon, making it possible to land on its surface. Quantum stones found in the Universe come from this Quantum Moon. The Nomiads began to observe the object. As long as you constantly look at such an object, it cannot disappear. This is the whole point of photographing the Quantum Moon.

How to get to the Hour of Ash project

As you may have guessed, you need to visit the planet Hour of Ash. However, you don’t need to look for some secret tunnel or cave to get to the center of the planet. Instead, you will have to wait a bit until the sand starts pouring into the Hour of Coal. Once this has begun, wait a bit until the towers located on the surface of the Hour of Ash begin to manifest. You need two towers connected by a small bridge.

When both towers appear, you need to destroy one. In the screenshot, she is shown on the right. Wait until the Hour of Coal is directly above these towers. However, this also means that you will now have a column of sand above you, which can move the hero to the twin planet.

Wait under the bridge connecting the two towers until the sand column is directly above you. Go inside. Jump into the broken tower and use the jetpack to fall to the ground ( Ctrl ). This will keep you on the Hour of Ash planet.

If you choose the right time, then a deformed tower is activated, which leads to the project of the Hour of Ash. Here you will find many answers to your questions!

How to get to the core of the Giant’s Deeps

There are two things you have to go through to get to the core of the Giant’s Deeps. The first is a strong flow of water, which does not allow going down into the depths. After him, you will find electric charges that kill the hero and destroy the ship in case of contact.

First, let’s deal with the water flow. With a tornado on the surface of the Giant’s Deeps, you can bypass this stream. You are interested in a tornado rotating in the opposite direction to the others. The ones that rotate clockwise push you up and down from the planet itself.

Therefore, a tornado rotating counterclockwise can only do one thing – push you towards the core of the planet. Thus, identify the desired tornado. The screenshot below shows the tornadoes to fly through.

Having overcome the water stream, you will encounter an obstacle from electric charges. Watch out for orange jellyfish swimming under the water you just passed. If you communicated with Spar and studied the Black Thorns a little, then you know that these creatures can shield you from electricity.

To overcome the electrical charges, find one of the jellyfish and fly under it. Use the thrusters to push the ship forward. You will be able to fly through the tentacles and reach the top of the jellyfish. All you need to do is press Ctrl to land. If you’re lucky, the jellyfish will fall with you, providing a safe passage through the electric field.
