best ENBs for TES 5: Skyrim: from realistic to cinematic

ENB is one of the most popular mods on Skyrim, because they are able to bring the graphics of 2011 much closer to today’s standards. We have selected 6 ENBs, which will not only improve the visual part, but also change the atmosphere of the game.

Setting up VideoMemorySizeMb

For many ENBs, you have to manually specify the VideoMemorySizeMb value in the enblocal.ini file. In order to find it out, follow the instructions below:

  1. Download the VRamSizeTestutility .
  2. Run VRamSizeDX9.exe and you will get the desired number. If you are using Windows 7, subtract 170 from the number. And if you use Windows 8, then 350.
  3. Set the resulting number to VideoMemorySizeMb.

RealVision ENB

Not just ENB, but a whole big project to improve the graphics of Skyrim towards realism. You will need to install more than one mod, but the result will be impressive and the game will come very close to modern standards. But if you wish, you can install only the ENB itself.

Installation:

To unleash the full potential of this ENB, it is recommended to first install several mods:

  • Climates Of Tamriel (Weather, Lighting, Audio).
  • Supreme Storms.
  • Climates Of Tamriel – Weather Patch. Install as shown in the following pictures:
  • True Storms – Thunder and Rain Redone.
  • Lightning during Thunder Storms.
  • Lightning during Thunder Storms – Climates of Tamriel Patch.

After that, proceed with the installation of ENB itself:

  1. Download ENBSeries v0.315 here.
  2. Copy d3d9.dll and enbhost.exe to Skyrim root directory.
  3. Install RealVision via NMM. Then follow the path where the mod was installed. By default, it will be in the Data folder.
  4. Next, we highly recommend using the RealVision installer. Run RV_launcher.exe and set the video memory value of your video card. If you are using Crossfire, then write the video memory value from only one video card.
  5. Press SET INIand the installation is complete.
  6. It is recommended to run this ENB through SKSE.

Seasons of Skyrim ENB True HDR

The author of this ENB tried to competently combine realism and cinematography. This mod is perfect for those who like balanced graphics without being too dark and bright.

Installation:

  1. Download ENB Series v0.262 from the following link.
  2. Download the mod itself and move the Data folder and the Main Files content to the Skyrim root directory. It is also recommended to copy the files from the Performance Options so as not to manually configure the settings.
  3. Open the SkyrimPrefs.ini file located in [Username] \ My Documents \ My Games \ Skyrimand make sure the following lines are configured correctly:
    • BFloatPointRenderTarget = 1
    • bDrawLandShadows = 1
    • bTreesReceiveShadows = 1
    • iBlurDeferredShadowMask = 5 (use this option if shadows are set to Ultra)
  4. Disable “Anisotropic Filtering” and “Anti-Aliasing” in the Skyrim Launcher Options.
  5. Optional: The Optional Effects folder contains additional effects. Select the one you want and copy to the root directory of Skyrim.
  6. Start the game and completely reduce the brightness in the settings.

Vividian ENB

This ENB not only improves the graphics of Skyrim, but also adds a drop of “dark fabulousness” to it, and the battles will become much more cinematic. The mod is also fully compatible with Vanilla, COT 5.0, Purity, RCRN, Pure weather and NLA.

Installation:

  1. Download the latest version of ENB Series. At the time of this writing, it was version 0.377, which can be downloaded here.
  2. From the downloaded archive, transfer d3d9.dll and enbhost.exe to the root directory of Skyrim.
  3. Download ENB itself with the NMN manager. The required files will appear in Skyrim \ Data \ Vividian ENB Install Files, but they should be moved to the root directory of the game.
  4. Open the SkyrimPrefs.ini file located in [Username] \ My Documents \ My Games \ Skyrimand make sure the following lines are configured correctly:
    • [Display]
    • bFloatPointRenderTarget = 1
    • bTreesReceiveShadows = 1
    • bDrawLandShadows = 1
    • bShadowsOnGrass = 1
    • bDeferredShadows = 1
    • fGamma = 1.0000
    • iMultiSample = 0
    • bTransparencyMultisampling = 0
    • [Imagespace]
    • bDoDepthOfField = 1
  5. In the Skyrim launcher, turn off Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering.

The Grim and Somber ENBS

ENB is for those who want Skyrim to be a really harsh place. The graphics in the game will become not only more realistic, but also darker.

Installation:

 

  1. Once on your Nexus, select the desired ENB version in the Filessection .
  2. Download the archive and copy the enbseries folder and files enblocal.ini, enbseries.ini to the root directory of the game. Open the enblocal.ini file in a text editor and set the correct value for VideoMemorySizeMb. Our guide at the very beginning of the article will help you with this.
  3. Download the latest version of ENB Series. At the time of this writing, it was version 0.377, which can be downloaded here. From the downloaded archive, transfer d3d9.dll and enbhost.exe to the root directory of Skyrim.
  4. Configure enbhost.exe to run as administrator in the properties.
  5. In the video card settings, you need to set “Anisotropic filtering” and “Smoothing” to “application control”. How to do this, you can see in our materialin the section “How to install ENB?”. Also, “Antialiasing” must be disabled in the game settings, and “Anisotropic filtering” set to 16.
  6. Edit your skyrimprefs.ini file under “-DISPLAY-“:

For ENB below 292 version:

  • bFloatPointRenderTarget = 1
  • bDoDepthOfField = 0 // or 1 to help with clear water problems
  • iBlurDeferredShadowMask = 5 (for better quality shadows, at least 4 if when viewing pixels / grids try up to 7)
  • bTreesReceiveShadows = 1
  • bDrawLandShadows = 1
  • bDrawShadows = 1

For ENB 292 version and higher:

  • ibShadowMaskZPrepass = 0
  • bMainZPrepass = 0
  • bDeferredShadows = 1

The Wilds ENB

Another ENB that makes Skyrim a darker place. Particularly atmospheric turned out snow-covered places, from which literally blows cold.

Installation:

  • Open the SkyrimPrefs.ini file located in [Username] \ My Documents \ My Games \ Skyrimand make sure the following lines are configured correctly:

bFloatPointRenderTarget = 1

iBlurDeferredShadowMask = 6

  • Download the selected ENB and in the archive select the desired version. Copy the contents of the desired folder to the root directory of Skyrim.
  • Download the latest version of ENB Series. At the time of this writing, it was version 0.377, which can be downloaded here. Select the WRAPPER version from the downloaded archive. Move d3d9.dll to your Skyrim root directory.

M ENB

The darkest ENB on our list. The game will become significantly darker, reminiscent of the atmosphere of the Dark Souls series . The mod is compatible with Night Eye, Predator Vision and Better Vamp.

Installation:

  1. Download the latest version of ENB Series. At the time of this writing, it was version 0.377, which can be downloaded here. In the downloaded archive, select the Wrapper version and transfer d3d9.dll and enbhost from there to the Slyrim root directory.
  2. Download ENB itself. Transfer the enbseries folder and the enblocal.ini, enbseries.ini files from the archive to the Skyrim root directory.
  3. Open the enblocal.ini file in a text editor and adjust the VideoMemorySizeMb. Our guide at the very beginning of the article will help you with this.
