Malmus House . Architectural heritage of Temuco dating from 1921 , due to its antiquity it is one of the most representative of the Germany Avenue. In its beginnings, it was the residence of the family of Conrado Malmus, a well-known farmer , merchant and businessman from the beginning of the 20th century . It is inspired by a palace in the city of Babaria.

History
Casa Malmus was built on the corner of Avenida Alemania and Calle 18 de Septiembre by the architect Enrique Knockaert. Work began in 1918 , with plans that Mr. Malmus brought from Germany , and construction was completed in 1921, as indicated by the weathervane on the north-west octagonal tower.
Conrado Malmus finished off the house in the 1930s, thus it came under the ownership of Mr. Manuel Cevo, who later sold it to the farmer Mr. Alejandro Santander. This last owner transferred it in the 1950s to the Bishopric of Temuco, an entity that used it through what was then called the Institute of Humanities.
At the end of 1959 , the Diocese of Temuco ceded it to the recently created Escuelas Universitarias de La Frontera, a university institution founded on September 8 of that year, by Bishop Alejandro Menchaca Lira, and in March – April 1960 the house received to the first students of Normalist Pedagogy. It is currently the activity center of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
The building is in a good state of conservation, renovations and extensions have been made to the original building.
Architecture
The Casa Malmus is a reference landmark within the Germany Avenue, being a clear testimony of the influence of the architecture of the German settlers in the city of Temuco.
The house is founded elevated from the ground level, configuring and axial axis preceded by a large garden atrium of approximately 30 meters, surrounded by large trees , palm trees and araucarias .
The access is located between architectural elements that frame it and revere it, such as the two towers that end laterally, an octagonal one that ends in a needle in the northeast corner, and to the west another one with a square shape and greater volume.
It has three levels of great spatiality, which includes a base plinth in stone masonry , a first and second level in brick masonry and woods of great ornamental richness. Its eaves and balcony with warheads highlight the Gothic trend , an imprint of its builders, while inside it can be seen, together with the warm wood of the floor and stairs , a reminiscence of the neoclassical , which is also reflected in the details of its cornice .

It is currently the headquarters of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the Catholic University of Temuc
