How to disable activity status on Instagram

In January 2018, Instagram added ” last seen ” functionality to its platform. This feature, called activity status , lets all of your followers know when you were last active. You are also free to see when was the last time the others connected. It has been applied to the direct messaging section of the app, where you chat with your followers. This feature is similar to the ones we have already seen in WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. With that being said, there is no need to panic because you can find out how to disable activity status on Instagram . And today we will tell you how to do it.

How to disable activity status on Instagram

So, here are the steps you need to follow on how to disable activity status on Instagram.

First, to get you familiar with the  Activity Status feature , here’s what the ” Last  Active ” tab and label below the usernames of people you’ve recently messaged will look like:

To disable the activity status on Instagram, open your Instagram profile, tap on the hamburger menu (icon of three horizontal lines) in the upper right corner and choose “ Settings ”.

When the Settings page appears , go to the ” Privacy ” section and tap on ” Activity Status ” to change the activity status of your Instagram account.

Now, disable “ Show activity status ” and you are all set. Other Instagram users will no longer be able to see your status online. Note that you also won’t be able to see  the last  activity status of people you text when you disable activity status.

As you can see in the image below, the “ online now ” bar at the top disappeared after disabling activity status. You also won’t see the ” active <minutes/hours> ago ” tag .

Remove Instagram Chat Online Status Section

Disabling the “ Activity Status ” feature on Instagram will allow you to keep your presence private. It will help restore your privacy,  keeping all those nosy friends and family at bay.  While the recently introduced Instagram polls and quick post sharing are useful, we felt that adding a section to expose your online status was unnecessary. What are your thoughts on this update? Do you think it will be useful, or is it better to disable it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
