Fishing Rod

Fishing rod. Instrument used for fishing. They exist of varied materials although originally its body was made of natural components, mainly bamboo cane , hence it is called cane.

Components

materials

  • Bamboo: it was the material used for centuries to make reeds. Due to its great performance and versatility, the remelted bamboo rod is still highly appreciated in rat tail fishing.
  • The Fiberglass : was the material with which the first modern fishing rods were made. Fiber Glass was a strong and flexible material that still is used in building rods for some fishing methods.
  • The Graphite : thanks to its light weight and high strength has been gaining much ground, although in its early fishermen were reluctant to use this material for its high conductivity, since it is much appealing to the rays and because of the manufacturing lines conductive materials such as carbon fiber , the risk of coming into contact with electrical conduction lines can generate discharge accidents.

Rings

The rings have been the product of evolution, from being mere fasteners they have become fundamental parts of modern rods. There are those that are mere metal rings, currently it is covered with a ceramic ring inside to avoid as much as possible the friction with the line and thus the abrasion of the latter is eliminated during the casting of lures and / or baits . The main objective of the rings is to distribute the pressure of the line along the body of the rod when a fish exerts tension from the other end at the time of fishing. Therefore, a rod with more rings along its body will be more resistant to the tension exerted by the line than one with less.

Mango

The handle of the fishing rods is an element made of different materials such as Cork or compressed Neoprene foam to generate comfort for the fisherman during long days of fishing. It is also where the reel is mounted using threaded clamping rings to firmly fix it to the rod. The handle can be of different sizes and shapes that depend on the type of fishing for which each rod is destined, for example: the rod handles for the “stand up” fishing mode are slightly longer, those of the rods for Large weights are molded at an angle to be mounted on the gunwales, etc.

To consider

  • A thread wears out with any friction. Let’s try to get the best grommets for two reasons. First: It won’t waste the nylons on us. Second: We will never have to replace them unless we break them.
  • We should take care of them during transport with a plastic tube or at least a cover.
  • Do not stop cleaning it every time we use it, especially the plugs and grommets.
  • Disassemble the washer tip if equipped, clean it and oil it. To clean and control the grommets, it is best to wipe them with a dry cotton ball once they are clean. Any impurities or defects they have will trap the cotton fibers and therefore surely damage our nylon.
  • The reel holder must be cleaned and oiled and, if possible, have a counter-thread in the adjustment if it were to be threaded.
  • Check ties and lacquers periodically.
  • Clean and wax the plugs if the stem has two or more sections.
  • Never stretch a telescope to shocks or apply too much pressure when assembling it.

specs

The vast majority of fishing rods have different specifications printed on their base that clarify various aspects of each particular rod.

The action

The action refers to the type of flexibility that the rod presents, having fast action-little flexibility-, medium, slow -much flexibility-. (fast, medium, slow)

The weight of the bait

The rods have a certain limit of resistance and flexibility that is clearly specified with the weight of the baits and / or lures that can be thrown with each one, this weight is indicated in ranges generally calculated in ounces.

Flexibility

The action, that is, the measure of rigidity or flexibility of your fishing rod, grows in importance when you cast and when you try to drag a fish.

  • Slow Action Fishing Rods: Lift small fish with these flexible rods. Slow-action fishing rods have the most bend, making them difficult for beginners to control, but offer the best precision for short-range fishing.
  • Medium Action Fishing Rods: Beginners find medium action fishing rods easy to handle. These reeds offer a bit of flexibility, curving in the middle and at the tip. Use them for short and long range fishing.
  • Quick Action Fishing Rods: The rigid quick action fishing rods bend at the end of the rod and don’t give much more. They are a good choice for long distance fishing and picking up big fish. However, they do not offer the precision of a short action rod and beginners often find them difficult to handle.

Types of reeds

There are several types of fishing rods, which are specified for the style or mode of fishing to be carried out, although the components and specifications are of a general nature. The most popular types of reeds are:

  • Spinningrod: For open reel with spool line parallel to the rod, it is placed below.
  • Castingrod: For open reel with spool line perpendicular to the rod is placed on top.
  • Spincast rod: For closed reel.
  • Fly rod: For reel of floating, neutral or submersible lines with fly hooks.
  • Pole-type rods: Long-sized rods for European-style shore fishing (al coup).
  • Surfcast rod: Rods of large general dimensions for fishing from the beach shore.
  • Trolling: Deep sea fishing rods, powerful for pelagic fish fishing.

According to the type of fishing

Rods are generically differentiated by the types of fishing for which they have been designed based on statistics. Some of those types of fishing require certain kinds of rods.

Spnning

This type of fishing is carried out by throwing and collecting an artificial trick that one tries to make certain types of hunting fish look like fresh food with a rod of 1.80 to 2.70 meters of choice.

Trolling

This type of fishing is that which is dragged by an artificial hoax from a moving boat. The rod will depend on its potency on the species that is being sought. Lengths from 2.10 to 2.70 meters.

Flycast

Fly fishing. Very special and very sensitive rods are used, made under the strictest conditions and with the best materials since they must be “cast” by the fisherman, so to speak. They are 7 to 9 feet and n or 2 to 12 according to the target species or the desired power.

Baitcast

It is a kind of fishing in which artificial weight tricks are thrown. Rods from 1.80 to 2.40 meters.

Pulse

This is the name given to silverside fishing where “pimps” are not used to detect the bite. Rods of 5 to 9 meters are used. and usually silverside is fished from breakwaters. A line called Lengue-Lengue is used.

Float

They are used for fishing with buoys where they mark the peak. There are different lengths that only make the comfort of the fisherman. Ex: A 4.50 meter rod from a dock is not the same as from a boat. They are generally of the “telescopic” type for better transportation. Canes from 2.70 to 4.50 meters.

Casting

They are the great rods for shore fishing in the sea. Its measurements are many (from 3.80 to 5.20 meters) and its actions commonly range from 5 to 9. The action determines the strength and thickness of the rod and what one is looking to fish. A burriqueta is not the same as a scaland shark .

Flight

It is artificial fishing for certain marine species (a kind of spinning) with a casting rod of very little action (5 or 6) in which common white bait is used among the hoaxes. From 3.80 to 4.50 meters.

Embarked

It is generally a heavier fishing than from the shore so the rods are usually stronger and their power is measured in pounds. Its grommets are with washers when looking for monsters and are used with large reels with thousands of meters of nylon capacity. They range from 2.10 to 2.70 meters.
