Chronicle
It was in the 1930s, when a fisherman observed an also simple phenomenon. Big fish eat small ones, especially if they are sick or injured. Thus began the greatest fishing story ever heard. Lauri Rapala was fishing in the waters of the Finnish lake Paijanne, paddling silently and watching the fish, when she saw how a hungry predator threw itself towards a school of fry and attacked the one who was swimming with a slight stagger. This happened over and over again.

Lauri realized that if he could build a lure that mimicked the movements of the injured fish, he could catch more fish , earn more money, and not waste time constantly casting the bait. So Lauri went to work, slicing, carving and polishing until the lure began to take shape.
Using a knife shoemaker and paper sanding sewed her first lure cork in 1936. The surface of the lure was made of the plastic of the chocolate and the protective layer with molten photographic negatives. Most importantly, this lure perfectly mimicked the actions of the injured fish. Legend has it that sometimes, with his new lure, Lauri caught 300 kilos of fish a day and as this news spread, the lure’s reputation also grew.
Models
Rattlin Rapala has internal parts that make the lure’s own movement (patented by Rapala) produce sounds that attract predators. The most notable characteristics of the Rattlin rapala are the following: It has a unique design of a hollow internal chamber, a closed chamber with metallized BBs, which are the ones that produce that special sound, it has a greater weight, which allows longer and easier casts. (in the case of rod fishing from a boat, rock or from the beach ).
This model does not have a swimming bib, since the ring where the line is tied is at the top of its head, thus giving it a unique navigability of its kind. Also, like most rapalas, it has two triple hooks to secure the bite. It is totally effective in both long and short casts, and is aimed at species that inhabit the shores or that are very close to the coast.
Rapala Team Esko has a larger volume which makes it more stable, to the point of being able to maintain the zigzag movement even under strong currents and in turbulent waters. Rapala Team Esko It is made of balsa wood, its weight is only 6 grams, so it allows the realization of very long and powerful casts thanks to its aerodynamic design. It has a custom bib, which produces erratic swimming action. It is equipped with hooks with two No. 6 treble hooks, sharpened by chemical procedures. A curious fact about this type of rapala is that at first it was only distributed in Finland, but due to its great success, it was sold on the international market in 1997.
Shallow Shap Rap (SSR) is a rapala for shallow waters. It is ideal for fishing the species that roam the surface of the water. An optimal lure for casting movements, and slow collection. The rods to use are the long ones with soft action.
Jointed Shad Rap (JRS)o Sahd Rap Articulated, is a slightly different lure from the rest of Shad Rap. It has a plastic body. Like the Rattling Shad Rap, this lure has Rattling (vibrations produced by small balls, which produce attractive sounds for fish), although this time it is stronger and more rhythmic, to increase its attraction on all species. It has a wide action, which means that when picking up the line, this lure bangs making concentric semicircles. It has conical hooks forged in black nickel-plated vanadium, which is very resistant. It is a slow pickup lure, intended for all slow predators. Like the original Shad Rap, extra leads can be placed along the line (in the case of trolling or hunting) or near the lure in the case of casting.
Rapala Magnum is an ideal lure for angling, with which large and powerful casts can be made. There are two versions of this rapala, one aimed at surface fishing, and the other aimed at fish that inhabit slightly deeper waters. The first is called Floating Magnum, and is made of balsa wood, which will provide us with great power and hardness (in the event that the casts are made near the rocks).
The second is called Submersible Magnum, and in addition to being made of balsa wood, it has a kind of rigid steel bib, which allows us to catch fish that live in mid-water.
Rapala Original Floating or in English “Original Floating” was the first Rapala made by Lauri Rapala, the inventor of this unique trolling lure. This Rapala model, perhaps because it was the first, became the best-selling lure in the world.
