For those who create a character that starts well in the smithy, you want to choose the family of urban craftsmen in which he will be born, who will stand out for his skill with horses, he spent most of his time on the docks and construction sites when grew up, you rode with the explorers in Calradia, and to achieve your most significant achievement, you invested some money in a workshop. These will provide you with the essential stepping stones to becoming a master blacksmith before setting off on Bannerlord.
While playing Bannerlord, if you don’t create this starting base for your character or don’t take on any of these traits, no problem. You can make your character work passively to become a better blacksmith. To do so and practice blacksmithing skill, you need to visit a city’s blacksmith to refine materials and smell old weapons. Instead of pawning any weapon you’re not using, you can restore it to get materials to use in other projects. You won’t be able to do it simply by visiting the smithy. You have to recover some necessary materials, such as hardwood, charcoal, and a variety of other materials of that nature.

You can do all of this by talking to the town merchant. They will not have charcoal, but you can create it by refining hardwood. Go to the miscellany. section of the options offered by a trader, buy hardwood, take it to the smithy and then go to the refine tab. You will be able to melt hardwood to create charcoal, allowing you to use it in most of your blacksmithing practices. From there, it’s having the right materials, refining them over and over again, and then creating new armor and weapons for your character to wear or sell in-game.
Crafting the weapons
The actual crafting part takes a bit of getting used to in the game. On the left side, you should see a bar, showing how difficult it is to create something. A small line shows your character’s general skills with blacksmithing. If that little line is higher than the item’s difficulty, you can create an expected item or something better, depending on your RNG chances. For those just starting out, most of the weapons and things you make will be worse to begin with, but you can still train your blacksmith skill by doing the job.
You can freely modify the type of weapon you are making and its statistics on the right side of the screen. You should see the type of materials and items that you are going to make for him, and you can change them based on what your character knows how to do. For example, for a simple one-handed warblade, it consists of four parts: the simple warblade, the furrowed north guard, a one-handed wooden hilt, and a flat pommel.
Clicking on any of these items will change the focus on the right screen. These change the stats found in the lower section such as weapon weight, range, thrust speed, etc. You can also do this by modifying the size of the weapon. You can experiment to see what kind of weapon size and materials you like to use to create a wonderful weapon, increasing its quality and making your character more powerful.
However, you can’t sit in a blacksmith and do crafts all day. Each character has resistance smithy. You can see it in the lower left corner while at the smithy. Every task you do a little resistance tasks. If you run out, you can choose to do something else for the rest of the day or rest in the city. It’s up to you.
Blacksmithing is relatively straightforward. Be sure to constantly talk to the merchant when you are in town and talk to them to see what material they have. If you are looking for a particular one to create something, check if you can do it by refining it from something else.
