In Minecraft, the main source of resources: iron and gold, diamonds and emeralds, coal and redstone are their ores. We tell you where and how to get and other features
Minecraft , simply from the name, is a game about mines. You either dig your tunnels and mines, or run through the already generated caves, but in any case, the purpose of this is to extract ores, because ores are needed to obtain and process resources, and they are the key to passing the sandbox. We list all types of ores in Minecraft, at what depth to look for them, how to get them and what they are useful for.
Loot levels
Different ores have different strengths and, as a result, are mined with tools of different levels:
- 1 level wooden, stone, iron, gold or diamond pickaxe;
- 2nd level stone, iron, gold or diamond;
- Level 3 iron or diamond pickaxe.
Obsidian blocks, by the way (we do not attribute it to ores) have the highest, 4, level, that is, they can only be broken with a drop of material with a diamond pickaxe.
Coal
Where to dig : Any depth from 1 to 130 blocks.
Loot level : 1.
Frequency : ~ 140 coal blocks per chunk.
The first ore that costs and can be mined. It is used as a quite efficient fuel for melting: just coal can melt eight items, in a block – 80. Coal is also often required for torches.
Iron ore
Where to mine : below, below 60 blocks.
Loot level : 2.
Frequency : ~ 75 ore blocks per chunk.
Iron is a material for tools, armor, mechanics, and weapons. A block of ore when smelted produces iron ingots. Iron armor and tools can be considered intermediate to diamond ones. In the later stages of the game, iron is spent mainly on railways.
In addition to processing iron ore, iron is obtained by farming iron golems, which can be spawned in large quantities by breeding villagers.
Gold Ore
Height at which to dig : below 30 blocks.
Loot level : 3.
Frequency : ~ 8 blocks per chunk.
Gold is the material for the fastest but most fragile tools, for useless armor. Metal is also needed for special mechanisms like clocks and energy rail, most importantly, for golden apples.
Redstone ore
Generation depth : 4 8.
Loot level : 3.
Ore frequency : ~ 25 blocks.
Redstone is used to assemble mechanisms. Both for crafting the blocks themselves, and directly for creating circuits as a signal conductor. In addition, redstone should be mined due to the large amount of experience dropped from ore blocks, until trips to the Nether for quartz are available, which gives many times more.
Lapis Lazuli Ore
Mining depth : below 31 blocks.
Pickaxe loot level : 2.
Generation frequency : ~ 4 ore blocks per chunk.
Lapis lazuli is used as a blue dye, which can be used to dye leather armor, beds, building materials, and for enchanting an enchanting table from 1 to 3 stones, depending on the level of future enchantments. Lapis lazuli drops in large quantities even from one ore block – no need to worry about such a rarity of the mineral veins.
Diamond ore
Mining Depth : Height below 12.
Pickaxe loot level : 3.
Generation frequency : ~ 2 ore blocks per chunk.
Diamonds are the most valuable resource in the game. Material for the top-end tools in the game, armor and some other items like a turntable and an arcane table. The material is extremely rare, it is better to get it with a pickaxe enchanted for luck, of course, if this is not the first deposit found.
Emerald ore
Loot Location : 4 – 32, just under the mountain biome.
Loot level : 3.
Emerald is a gem for trading with NPC peasants. Nothing can be made of emeralds.
It is obtained mainly by exchange with residents, while mining is more of a side method.
Nether quartz
Where to dig : In the Nether, up to about 120 blocks.
Loot level : 2.
Frequency per chunk : ~ 80 blocks.
Quartz is used as a building material and indirectly for enchanting, since a lot of experience drops out when a block of ore is destroyed. Quartz is also needed to craft elements of redstone circuits: comparators, observers.
