The name of the town of Macagua is due to the number of trees named Macaguas that existed in the place: that is, the wild trees of the Island of Cuba, whose fibrous and hard wood that was used in carpentry at that time.

It was founded on 2 of November of 1868 in favor of José Fuente Flores who lived in that area and then exchanged in 1892 for Pedro Rocío Oquendo, who from 1914 dismounts and begins its agricultural and ranching.

The territory that the Popular Council occupies is flat with small elevations ranging from 40 meters to 60 meters located mainly in its area. The predominant images are the sparse mountains and some large palm groves that still remain, although the large extensions of forest species in the Santa Lucía and Cayo Mamones area present pleasant visuals, not being the case in the areas surrounding the ” Mario Muñoz ” Sugar Company. .
