Tabs in browsers have become essential for our day to day, because thanks to them we can have several websites open in the same window of our browser. Browsing with Google Chrome by tabs is a function that the browser has always had, but now there is a new feature, groups.
The Google Chrome tab groups are a new experimental function that we must activate so that we can use it, but it is a very useful tool whenever we have many tabs open in our Chrome browser.

The experimental functions of Google Chrome are really useful for many occasions, but it is true that they are options that you should take into account that they are functions that require some technical knowledge.
Activate tab groups
In order to activate the groups of tabs in Google Chrome, we must access a semi-hidden section of our browser, which are called flags, they are experimental functions that we can activate in Chrome.
- To activate the tabs we have to write the following “Chrome: // flags” in the Google Chrome address bar.
- Once inside, a list of functions will appear and we will have a search engine in which we have to write “Group Tabs”, that way all the functions with that name will appear and we must activate the first option.
- To activate, all you have to do is click Disabled and choose the Enabled option from the drop-down list.
- Now the browser itself will ask us to restart it by clicking the Relaunch button, once restarted we can start enjoying the groups of Google Chrome tabs.
How Tab Groups Work
The operation of the groups of Chrome tabs is very similar to that of a normal tab, but in this case we can create groups, name them as we want and assign them a color to better locate all the tabs.
- To create a group you just have to right click on a tab and click on the option Add tab to new group.
- A small window will appear in which you can put the name you want to the group and choose a color, among its options you can add tabs to the group, close the group or open all the tabs of that group in a separate browser window to still have more organization.
- Now you will see that a new tab has appeared in the tab bar with the name of the group you just added. To add more tabs to this group, you will only have to open them within the group or drag a tab to the group and it will remain within it.
- The groups of tabs can be closed, that is, if you click on the group the tabs will go inside, leaving more space in the tab bar to have everything more organized or in case you are not interested in having that tab open that takes up space.
You can create all the groups of tabs you want , and have several tabs several different groups, but if we miss some more important functions such as that the groups of tabs were fixed since they are temporary and when closing all the tabs that the group or browser these disappear.
We do not know how long the groups of tabs will remain as an experimental function , but we are clear that it is a tool that helps a lot when we have an immense chaos of tabs in our browser because sometimes I have had more than 30 tabs open and I wish I could have had This function.
