WHAT IS PROCRASTINATION?

To learn how to overcome procrastination we need to understand its real meaning.

The word procrastination is a word originally from Latin: pro – (ahead) and crastinus – (from tomorrow).

In short it means: “Leave it for tomorrow, what we should be doing today”.

If you are sincere you will admit, how many and how many times did you leave to do something in the nick of time and when you found yourself were stuck with accumulated work?

How many times and how many times have you postponed until tomorrow something that was perfectly enough to do now?

You always have something more important to do than what you really needed to do.

And what is really important you “push with your belly” and it turns out that the most important thing is always for later.

Procrastination also happens when we look for distractions to avoid doing something that will take us out of our “comfort zone”.

Precisely because we don’t want to feel any kind of discomfort, and we end up letting the important things pile up.

WHY DO WE PROCRASTINATE?

We need to understand the reasons why we procrastinate so much.

Often this happens after you set a goal to be achieved, that is, a result that you want to achieve, but after you outline everything that needs to be done to achieve the results that you want to beat a discouragement.

Because you realize the amount of things you need to do to achieve the results you want.

And then because of your beliefs, feelings of helplessness, helplessness, incompetence, etc. can come.

And all of this is proof that the procrastination piece is installed in your mind, and that it needs to be replaced by the productivity piece.

EXAMPLES OF PROCRASTINATION:

– Start or continue with a project

– Doing exercises

– Study for the entrance exam

– Study for a contest

– Read an important book

– Start saving more

– Write an article for your Blog

These are just a few examples, but we know that procrastination can affect all areas of our lives.

Of course, you may find it easier to do an exercise while already procrastinating to study, or vice versa.

There are people who procrastinate in some areas of life while others in all.

But regardless of the area you have been procrastinating in, know that it is precisely in that area that the satisfaction that you are looking for and that you have long been unhappy for not being a fully realized person can be.

So be very careful because procrastination can become a habit, and then you will never understand how to beat procrastination.

If we are not careful it can become behavior. (In some cases it is already a behavior).

And we have to be aware of when we fall into that pattern.

So understanding that you have a problem that is hindering your whole life purpose, let’s do a step by step for you to finish this article truly transformed, combined?

# 1 STEP – RECOGNIZE THE HABIT OF PROCRASTINATION AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES

Recognize that you are solely responsible for your lack of productivity and that you need to eliminate all the excuses you have been giving in order to continue procrastinating and always delaying your projects.

Without recognition you will continue in the same way, always transferring your guilt / responsibility to others or to a specific circumstance and never leaving that mediocre level where you find yourself.

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR EXCUSES.

Think about when you will start…

Or postpone a project …

There you are, with the possibility to make that phone call, write the first paragraph of the article, prepare your product offer, study one of those courses you bought, or whatever you need to do.

Visualize in that moment what you would say to yourself in that moment that somehow justified not doing the specific task!

An excuse that is often used is: “I am very tired now. I am going to rest, to be willing to do that ”.

“My time is too short to do all of this now, so there’s no point in getting started.”

“Later on I will have plenty of time to do that”

“First, I have to organize this or that, then start”

And so there are countless excuses that are CREATED for you to continue to delay your life and never understand how to overcome procrastination.

You need to assume that you are in the state you are in today because YOU have created the habit of procrastination and you are always making excuses to stay in your comfort zone.

AND HERE’S A BIG PROBLEM, IS WHEN PROCRASTINATION AND THE EXCUSES TO CONTINUE PROCRASTINATING BECOME A HABIT.

Any bad habit needs to be replaced by another habit that will overcome the current habit.

According to SJ Scott’s book 23 Anti-Procrastination Habits: How to Stop Being Lazy and Get Results in Your Life – You can trace all the success (or failure) in your life by habit.

What you do in your daily life largely determines what you will achieve in life.

I will bring you a very simple definition of what habits are: “Everything I repeat many times until I start doing it unconsciously”.

Habits generate routines and I no longer need to think about how I’m going to do that, because it’s already part of me.

A HABIT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BUILDING A PATTERN IN YOUR LIFE

The same author states that some of us have chosen to follow self-improvement habits.

In other words, habits that take us to another level of development: how to set goals, read inspiring books, work on important projects and ignore distractions and waste.

Other people choose self-destructive habits.

In other words, habits that lead us to get worse or that hinder our development in order not to advance to the next level in our life.

How to do as little as possible, stifle creativity through dull, low-quality entertainment.

(like staying on facebook, whattsapp, instagram without a goal aligned with your life purpose.), and blaming others for our failures.

HABITS CAN BE BOTH GOOD AND BAD.

They define who we are, what we do and what we can accomplish in life.

The interesting thing is that every habit is formed from the same model.

Once you learn how it works, you can safely adapt it to any new routine and follow it consistently.

Both good and bad habits were formed through repetition.

At some point in your life, you developed the habit of procrastination, as it gave you, in the short term, the reward of the “good feeling” of living in the moment.

What you probably didn’t do , was learn to experience these “lazy” feelings and act in spite of them.

Understanding and ACKNOWLEDGING that procrastination has become a habit in your life, you are a few steps away from eliminating it, replacing it with habits that lead to productivity.

Reflection: The simplest solution to  eliminate procrastination is not to  fight it. Instead, you need to replace it with  good routines that benefit  your life.

Let’s go to the next steps where we will learn how to overcome procrastination and develop habits that will lead us to raise our productivity level by up to 10x more.

# 2 STEP – DIVIDE YOUR GOALS INTO SMALL ACTIONS (PARTS) – BREAKING THE MONSTER

You have been planning to kick-start this project for some time, right?

But somehow due to the size of the project, you don’t even know where to start?

Calm down, you are not the only one to go through this, we all go through situations like this when we are facing something apparently big.

We feel overwhelmed and so we don’t even start.

So we need to break these goals and turn it into small steps in a process that we can call step-by-step for success.

DRAW UP A PLAN FOR WHERE TO START.

For you to understand how to overcome procrastination you will need to understand the feeling of oppression.

Usually those who procrastinate feel overwhelmed.

So it becomes very difficult to concentrate when you have a pile of actions that are transformed into a monster, and that stops you from starting.

You will break this monster into several small pieces.

that way you will not focus on the stock stack, but on a specific ACTION.

Small actions combined have a very large cumulative power, and will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed or overwhelmed.

There is even a proverb that says the following: “Water soft on hard stone, it beats until it punctures”.

Then write it down piece by piece, one by one, and put dates so you don’t get put off.

We can call this method “subdivision of goals” or “mini-goals”.

Imagine that you have to prepare a complete course on [the area that you are an expert], it is devastating.

INSTEAD, IT CAN BE DIVIDED INTO COMPONENT PARTS:

Example:

1st – Build a Mind Map to define all training modules (Use tools like mindmeister.com, xMind etc.)mindmeister . com , xMind etc.)

This will bring a sense of organization to your project.

2nd – Define the classes of the first module, one by one, and add it to your mental map, until you have all the programmatic content of the course organized in all modules of the course.

3rd – Organize the communication channels to publicize the course, be it a blog, facebook, youtube etc.

4th – Prepare the product offer to be used in the communication channels.

5th – Prepare a budget for the dissemination via Ads, be it Facebook Ads, Youtube Ads or Sponsored Links.

And so on, it is up to you to organize your goals.

This was just a small example of the great things you can do, setting out a step-by-step for you to achieve great results.

Reflection: Setting goals will be your secret weapon in the fight against procrastination. Knowing what is important creates a structure in your daily routine.

Even establishing the steps step by step, obstacles may arise so that you don’t even start or stop at a certain point in your project.

# 3 STEP – GO BEYOND THE FIRST OBSTACLE

Go beyond the first obstacle, because the important thing is not just to start, but to END.

In the beginning everything can go well, maybe you divided this “monster” into 16 parts and reached part 4, the first obstacle has already appeared.

How do you get in the habit of procrastinating what comes to mind?

Give up.

But let’s exclude that word from our vocabulary ok?

Maybe someone you want to talk to.

A material you don’t have yet.

You are unable to resolve a problem with your website server.

Or maybe it even rains on the first day of your cooper that you have scheduled.

How to overcome procrastination in the face of obstacles?

You have reached a very difficult moment: the first obstacle.

On-call procrastinators are likely to be upset if the obstacle cannot be overcome immediately.

Or if they imagine that the problem cannot be easily eliminated.

When faced with the first problem, they feel frustrated and think: “I can’t deal with this situation”.

Or they can interpret the obstacle as a direct challenge to their competence, feeling defeated if they cannot quickly find the right solution.

Any obstacle, large or small, can become a source of frustration or humiliation.

The danger for procrastinators is not to temporarily give up on solving the problem.

Sometimes it can be really wise to take the time to reevaluate your situation.

THE DANGER IS IN ABANDONING ALL EFFORTS AND GIVING UP COMPLETELY.

Because procrastinators feel so defeated by an obstacle, they have great difficulty getting back to the problem and fighting it a second or third time.

Unfortunately, obstacles are inevitable and, if you cannot overcome setbacks, you will not achieve progress.

When you encounter an obstacle, remember that it is only an obstacle, not an accusation that you are stupid / incompetent.

If you decide to take a temporary leave, set a specific time and place to address the situation again.

Identify in a very concrete way what your action will be at the time.

Remember that you don’t have to solve the whole problem at once.

You can leave it for a while and come back to it again and again if necessary.

And if you move away from that obstacle temporarily, is there any other part of your goal that you can work on?

If it’s raining outside, can’t you do your exercises indoors?

Is there no other free email marketing system that you can use while you are not profiting from your project?

Although you temporarily interrupt your activities in an area, you do not have to stop completely.

Reflection: But the will to win, the will to succeed, to shape one’s life, to take control, can only be used when you decide what you want, and you believe that no challenge, no problem, no obstacle can stop you. it.

# 4 STEP – REWARD YOURSELF AFTER MAKING SOME PROGRESS

This idea of rewarding yourself seems a little strange to many of the procrastinators.

For they are much more accustomed to punish themselves than to praise themselves.

It is very sad, but it is a fact that, in almost all cases, procrastinators become experts in self-punishment and very little in being kind to themselves when they deserve it.

No matter how much progress procrastinators make toward a goal, they do not feel entitled to any satisfaction or reward until they have completed it completely.

Even when they succeed, they do not allow themselves to enjoy their fulfillment if they are furious with themselves for having procrastinated somewhere along the way.

HOW TO OVERCOME PROCRASTINATION WITH THIS MENTALITY ? IMPOSSIBLE

When you move forward, even if you don’t do it the way you would like to, give yourself some reward.

It can be anything that you like or that makes you feel good.

A dinner in your favorite restaurant, watching a good series or movie, a weekend excursion with people you like, a game of video games, football, reading a book etc.

Another person’s praise or even the private recognition you give yourself are also good sources of reward.

The rewards are much more efficient when they occur right after the execution of the desired action.

They act as “positive reinforcement”, increasing the likelihood that the action will be repeated.

In other words: “I will go to the cinema and then I will start to work” is not as efficient as doing some work first and only then going to the cinema.

I suggest that you recognize before you start your activities what your rewards are.

So that, as you work towards your goal, you are ready to reinforce your progress as soon as you reach it.

This will create conditioning in your brain and therefore a pattern in your life.

Reflection: Any pattern of emotion or behavior that is reinforced in
a continuous way will become an automatic and conditioned reaction.
Anything we fail to reinforce will eventually dissipate.

# 5 STEP – ELIMINATE PERFECTIONISM FROM YOUR LIFE

Nobody is PERFECT, we are in a process of improvement.

If you are hoping to reach that level to present your project to the world, you may never present it.

Or never start studying for a competition or entrance exam because you think you don’t know how to study perfectly.

As you already know, you will never pass for a contest.

Improvement, not perfection, is acquired through practice, through repetition.

But if you don’t even start how will you improve?

If you are a perfectionist, you may find yourself entangled in a struggle to do all the things absolutely right, even when there is no real need for such a high standard.

Not to mention that the perfectionist with his inability to tolerate imperfections will be chronically dissatisfied, frustrated, anxious and even depressed.

For in many cases, unattainable standards of perfection are established, and they still believe that they can achieve them as long as they try hard enough.

If you are a perfectionist, you confuse doing the best you can in a given situation with doing the best there is all the time.

You may not apply this pattern to all areas of your life.

But in the areas where you do this, your expectations are unrealistic.

AND ANOTHER CRUEL THING THAT AFFECTS ALL PERFECTIONISTS IS LOW SELF-ESTEEM.

How to overcome procrastination with your self-esteem down there?

Of course, not only are perfectionists suffering from low self-esteem, but all perfectionists suffer from this problem.

For you will always have a negative opinion of yourself, as you will always be comparing yourself with others.

Each and every time you fail to live up to standards that no one (no matter how competent and confident) can achieve, you confirm what you believed in all the time: that you are not good enough, that you should be better and therefore that needs to work harder to do the best.

If you can get rid of your need for perfection every step of the way, you will be able to accomplish much more.

Reflection: While you warm up the engines, waiting for perfection, remember: “It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs to be done ”.

AND HERE IS A GIFT FOR YOU

# BONUS – HOW TO WIN PROCRASTINATION SHARING WITH PEOPLE WHAT YOU WILL DO

Well, if you’ve made it this far, it’s because you’re really committed to changing your life.

to reward you for your perseverance and determination here is a more than special BONUS with a killer tip that will further increase your chances of winning procrastination.

SHARING YOUR PROJECT WITH THE WORLD

Share with people what you are going to do, whether with wife, friends, partner, family, etc. this will create a network of commitment.

You will enter a different emotional state when you decide to share with people what you are going to do.

WE CAN CALL IT A STATE OF COMMITMENT

This will dramatically decrease your chances of procrastinating.

Because you don’t want to be seen as someone without words, or someone without commitment.

On the contrary, you will do your utmost to accomplish what you said because you now know that people are waiting for what you promised, regardless of what it is, someone will be waiting.

This is one of the best ways for you to move from a state of indisposition to a state of disposition.

Where you will find yourself highly willing to do what you have stated.

And if, even if you declare to other people that you feel strongly attracted to procrastination, these people will nudge you in some way, they will charge you to do what you said you would do.

Reflection: At the very least, making your intentions public makes it difficult for you to keep away from your objective in secret.
