How To Fix error code x80070005 when activating Office

Sometimes problems arise out of nowhere. This was the case even with Office installations. Everything seems to be in order for a second. Suddenly, the program starts showing an error with the following description:

Unfortunately, something went wrong and we cannot do it for you right now. Please try again later. (0x80070005).

Error code 0x80070005 means that the activation service does not have access to sufficient user permissions.

It is difficult to determine the single cause of this error as there may be multiple reasons for the mentioned error code. But what appears to be symptomatic of a fundamental problem is the limitation of privilege.

To easily resolve error code “0x80070005” while activating Office, follow these steps.

First, make sure you have the latest activation bug fixes. To do this, open any Office application such as Word or Excel. Click File> Account. In the Product Information section, click Update Options and select the Update Now check box.

If for some reason you don’t see this option, click Update Options> Enable Updates to enable automatic updates.

Then click Update Options> Update Now.

Now start any office program (such as Microsoft Word or Excel) by right-clicking its shortcut and choosing “Run as administrator”. If that doesn’t work, try this alternative. Close all office programs. Click the Windows 10 Start button in the lower left corner of your screen.

In the search bar that becomes active, enter any name for the Office application, such as Excel. The Excel icon should instantly appear in the search results.

Now right click on the Excel icon and select the “Run as administrator” option.

Then just follow the activation instructions.

If the activation wizard does not appear. Try the following

Select File> Account> Activate Product to continue.
