How To Fix Dead Pixel In Monitor

If your monitor has a dead (or more) or blocked pixel but is not covered by the monitor warranty , there are some methods you can follow yourself to try to repair it. In this article we are going to show you in what ways you can try to fix a dead pixel on your monitor without spending money , and thus make it work as it is supposed to.

First of all, we must know if the defect that the monitor has is a dead pixel or a blocked pixel . Dead pixels are normally black (dark) or white (bright), and they are pixels that are not working. For its part, a blocked pixel is normally red, green or blue, and it is a pixel that does work but that has been blocked in that color and is not able to change.

But before looking at the methods, and especially for dead pixels, you must understand that they have associated risks and that if you are not careful you could end up messing up the screen. For this reason, do it at your own risk , and we always recommend trying to process the guarantee first, since it is the best method to avoid possible problems.

How to try to fix a dead pixel

As a general rule, dead pixels cannot be fixed, but there is a widely known method, which we are going to explain below, that in some isolated cases can work to fix it. However, from now on we tell you that this method works few times, only in those dead pixels that are dead due to bad contact . Even so, if this is your case, it is worth a try.

These are the steps to follow:

  1. Completely turn off your computer and monitor.
  2. Using a soft, dry cloth, preferably microfiber, apply pressure right where the dead pixel is. Don’t apply too much pressure, just a little, and be careful not to press areas where there are no dead pixels.
  3. While continuing to apply pressure, turn on the PC and monitor.
  4. Once the equipment has started, stop applying pressure and remove the cloth.

If everything went well and you were lucky, the dead pixel will be resurrected. The “science” of this method is simply to extend the liquid crystal inside the LCD matrix of the screen to this pixel to make it work again, which is why it will only work on LCD monitors.

How to fix a stuck pixel

These types of defects are easier to fix, so the success rate when trying is much higher (around 50% success). In this case, the pixel has been locked in one color and is not able to change, and the simplest solution is done by software in a very easy way.

This is the method to follow:

  1. Leave the monitor off for at least two hours to make sure its components are cool before starting.
  2. Turn on the PC, and as soon as it starts, open a browser and access JScreenFix .
  3. Click on the button «Launch JScreenFix».
  4. Press F11 to enter full screen mode, and move the colored box to the area where the locked pixel is.
  5. Leave it there for 10-15 minutes. If possible, even longer (up to an hour).

What this method does is force the pixels in the area to switch between red, green, and blue at a rate of 60 times per second, which can help resurrect the blocked pixels easily and quickly.

If this method has not succeeded in getting the pixel to unlock, you can try the same method that is used for dead pixels.

Can anything be done if these methods don’t work?

If none of these methods have worked for you, it is likely that that pixel is “really” dead and cannot be fixed, since it is a physical problem with the pixel. In this case, you should check, as we mentioned at the beginning of this article, if the monitor’s warranty covers this problem. Otherwise, unfortunately there is little you can do, but if this problem has arisen in the first days since the purchase of the monitor (or it already came to you like this), remember that you have the right of withdrawal and you can return it at no cost to you as long as you have made the purchase online.
