GADGETS In Review: 1More Omthing E-Joy Smartwatch

Outside of the first brands like Samsung, Apple, or Fossil, there is life in the field of smart watches . Generally lower cost bets that are looking for an audience that does not want to spend between 100 and 400 euros that one of these top-of-the-line devices may cost, but who wants to have features that allow them to monitor their activity.

The 1More Omthing E-Joy fully falls into this category, we have tested it, and we tell you about our experience and what we have seen from this wearable.

Presentation

The presentation packaging presents an external appearance of the Apple type: immaculate white box with the image of the product on the front and the characteristics of the product on the back.

The opening is carried out by pushing the internal box from its base or downwards from its upper part. Another box will welcome us, also white and with the legend ‘SMART’ silkscreened on the top.

Within the latter we find the clock , from which we must remove an adhesive label present on its upper part. On this label we find the QR code that we have to use to find the app that we will have to install on the smartphone to synchronize the clock with our mobile.

When we remove the tray under the clock, we will have a special charging cable that, on the one hand, is a common type A USB and, on the other, has four terminals, two of them magnetic (the outer ones) to fix the cable to the clock, and the two interiors are the ones that carry out the charge effectively.

Finally, we will also find a basic manual for use on paper , with instructions in several languages (English, French, Chinese, Italian, Turkish … and yes, also Spanish ). This manual is very brief and graphic.

Design

The 1More Omthing E-Joy smartwatch features a rectangular-shaped case , with a silicone strap . The case, made of zinc alloy , is reminiscent to a certain extent of the Apple Watch, a model of many current designs (especially the low-cost ones to which this example belongs), but from which the side button has been removed, as it lacks any visible button.

And I say visible because the button actually has it, although it is hidden at the bottom of the screen .

We can appreciate the design of the box in the following photographs:

Regarding the strap, it has an effective fastening system in order to keep the watch on the wrist, but at least peculiar and whose curious shape has made it difficult for me to put it on :

First, we must hit the hole that suits us best, under pressure, with the metal fixing piece, and then pass the excess of the strap through the slot so that it is hidden. And this last step without the fixing piece coming out again, which sometimes happens.

The best way to fix the watch is to do it with the case on the inside of the forearm.

It is comfortable? I will say that it is not uncomfortable , but that it has not been particularly comfortable for me either and I even had to take it off some night after wearing it all day to be able to fall asleep.

To summarize this aspect, I will say that for a smartwatch in the budget range, the E-Joy looks pretty good, although the strap gives it away.

We can also take it swimming, since it is submersible to a depth of 50 meters . And if we have a more expensive smartwatch that gives us a bit of trouble to put in the water because of what may happen, the present is a good option as a companion in our bathrooms.

Start up

The first step required to work with the E-Joy is to install on our smartphone the app that complements and allows the synchronization between both devices, to then pair the watch, a procedure that I explain in more detail in the section of this article in the one that I speak of the mobile application.

I have said the first step but, in fact, it is the only one, since nothing else is required to start working , since everything is controlled from the app . Also, if we connect it to the power to charge when it is off, it automatically turns on.

Then, once it is turned on, we must search for it through the mobile’s Bluetooth to pair it, and enter the app, where we will also pair it in a very easy way (if we have it paired in the system, the app pairs it automatically).

Functioning

The 1More E-Joy is, essentially, a smartwatch that can work autonomously to collect data (such as the steps taken, or the reading of the heart rate, or the blood pressure), and then synchronize it with the application installed on our mobile to be able to have a very visual summary of our physical activity.

However, if we do not turn on the Bluetooth on our phone and we do not connect the E-Joy, we will miss the notifications in real time from, for example, WhatsApp, which allow us to read incoming messages (although we must make a visual effort, everything has to be said).

By default, the E-Joy performs an hourly reading of the heart rate if we do not activate the corresponding mode, which also stores if we do not have the watch connected to the mobile.

Once we decide to connect it, we will only have to activate the Bluetooth of our terminal, enter the app and wait for the data to synchronize.

App

The app that we must download and install on our phone in order to connect with the Omthing E-Joy Smart Watch is WoFit , generic and compatible with other wearable devices. It is available for Android and also for iOS (iPhone, iPad).

It is very simple, and to use it we must register an account and fill in some information, such as our date of birth, weight, height, and exercise goals that we want to set (for example, number of steps to take each day). Once we have passed that step and we have the clock connected, the interface is very simple and self-explanatory.

Upon entering we find the summary home screen , in which we can see at a glance the information of the steps performed during the day, the sleep quality meter, the heart rate, and the weight, which will be a parameter that we must enter. directly after weighing on a scale.

WoFit home screen

By clicking on the cards in each of these sections, we enter their corresponding section, in which we can see in detail other parameters, as well as the accumulated data history.

In the case of the steps , we can see the ones we have taken throughout the day, the percentage of the daily goal, the distance traveled, and the consumption of kilocalories that this exercise supposes.

We enter the step count card to see all the activity and the various parameters, such as the distance traveled

In the sleep section , it indicates the total hours and, of these, those that have been light sleep, and which ones deep sleep. It also tells us the time at which we finally fall asleep, and at what time we wake up.

Sleep monitoring card, where we can see how many hours we have slept with light sleep, and how many with deep sleep

From the heart rate we have the maximum, the minimum, the average BPM value, and even the data by time bands, something especially useful if we go on excursions or long walks.

In the heart rate card we can see the information of the maximum and minimum peaks, and the average

In this section, the WoFit app is very complete , and we will hardly be able to take full advantage of all the information it provides us.

If in the user interface we go to the top, we will see that we have two ‘tabs’, the second of which is ‘Exercise’. This section allows us to monitor a total of six sports practices : running outdoors, running on a treadmill, cycling, anaerobic plank (plank), walking, and high intensity interval training (HIIT).

Main screen of the exercise section, where we can see all the possibilities of the app

Each one has its parameters that the app will monitor. Thus, in running outdoors and cycling, in addition to the duration of the exercise, the pace, and the kilometers traveled, it will also show us our route on a map thanks to the GPS of the terminal. In the plank exercise, on the other hand, it will monitor the duration and give us the estimated calorie consumption.

Finishing at the top of the user interface, we find the icon corresponding to the smartwatch, which allows us to see the status of its connection and change different parameters such as the duration of the clock screen backlight when we see the time, or the format from the home screen .

It is in this section that the watch’s firmware updates are checked and downloaded and installed.

In the configuration icon, the last one on the right side of the upper bar, we can set parameters such as the goals to be met (daily sleep hours, minimum number of steps, kilocalories to burn, …), the units (metric or imperial) , the language of the app (which may be different from the operating system), and even connect it with Google Fit.

WoFit app settings section

Simplicity and a wide and complete variety of parameters go hand in hand in this mobile application, with the flexibility that we can leave the phone at home, just go out with the watch, and when we return we dump the data in the app just by reconnecting the smartwatch E-Joy.

Do I miss you something? Yes: being the watch waterproof, it is a pity that it does not have exercise modes for swimming, neither the smartwatch itself, nor the app .

User interface

First of all, one thing that should be clear: the E-Joy is not a touchscreen smartwatch . As I have detailed in the design section, it has a physical button at the bottom of the screen.

To press it, you have to press on that part . It’s not a very fancy formula, although it certainly allows you to build a watch with smart features for a fraction of the cost of one of these touchscreen gadgets. The cost is that this way of working is not very user-friendly.

Going between the different screens becomes tedious , and navigating between the options (taking into account that there is no other button to go to the previous option, so you have to restart the rotation) is not complicated, but it can get tiresome .

By pressing once we enter a carousel of modes. When we see the one that interests us (for example, the sports one), we make a long press to enter it. In each mode we will have several options, which we will go through with short keystrokes and seeing the different options in the form of a carousel.

Continuing with our example, once we have entered the sports mode with a long press, we will go through the activities (running, climbing, playing soccer, …) with short presses, until we reach the one that interests us, which we will activate with a press long.

The icons are simple and it doesn’t take long to fiddle with the watch to get its functionalities at hand.

Screen

1.3 inches with a resolution of 240 × 240 pixels . For the price it is not bad, but it remains only in this.

Although under the direct influence of sunlight it is a bit difficult to see what it shows , taking its price as a reference (something inescapable to judge what it offers) it is not bad at all.

Interestingly, the tempered glass gives a quality touchscreen and watch feel (aside from being pleasant to the touch), more than the price should theoretically allow.

Applications

It should be clear that we cannot install applications on this watch . It offers those that are pre-installed and, in any case, it is possible (and I am only saying possible) that if 1More wants and receives feedback requesting it, it incorporates new functionalities via firmware updates if the hardware allows it.

The set of applications or functionalities it provides is quite broad, with a step counter, heart rate monitor, blood pressure monitor, sleep monitor, instant notifications (which can be disabled), sports mode with several recognized practices (running, mountaineering , soccer, cycling, and jump rope), and a configuration mode that allows us to adjust the brightness of the screen, start the stopwatch, restart it, or turn off the clock.

Drums

If you asked me to highlight just one aspect of this watch, or the one that I think is most interesting, I would undoubtedly use the battery, which I can describe as ‘ almost infinite ‘.

In fact, it is already indicated to us in the E-Joy specifications that with a charge it can withstand 15 days of normal activity, and up to 60 days in stand-by mode . How long does it really last?

Well, honestly, it is difficult for me to say, because I have had it in use for up to three weeks almost uninterruptedly (some night I would take it off to sleep), and the battery has only dropped a ridiculous percentage .

As the data collection is done automatically, I have not needed to touch it to put it in step counting mode, nor to take a heart rate reading, nor in any sport mode except in specific situations and moments that have interested me to perform said sensorization.

We can safely go on a trip with this smartwatch and without its charger for more than a week and we will not have to suffer about whether we will reach the end without a load.

Conclusion: the battery stands out. The rest, passable but correct for the price

We are facing a very correct smartwatch for its price of $ 34.99, around 30 euros to change , in which its battery powerfully stands out.

The interface through a hidden button is well achieved, and undoubtedly contributes to the fact that without a touch screen, the energy consumption of the device is lower, but the mechanism to access the different functionalities and options ends up becoming tedious.

The mobile app is very correct and with good functionality, although – and like the watch – support to recognize water sports parameters (such as the stroke count in swimming practice) is missing .

Recommended as a low-cost option, or as a secondary smartwatch to practice sports or go on excursions, reserving the other for other occasions, such as social engagements.
