So according to dr. S. Adam Ramin, Medical Director of Urological Cancer Specialists in Los Angeles, USA, as reported by Men’s Health Australia.
Even though most penile discoloration is normal, remind your husband and son because they also need to be vigilant.
This is because there are also some cases of discoloration of the penis due to certain conditions. Quoted from Men’s Health Australia, here are 5 diseases that cause the penis to change color.
1. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
The first cause of penile discoloration is due to sexually transmitted diseases such as genital herpes and syphilis. When caused by herpes or syphilis it is usually accompanied by additional symptoms such as: itching, pain, fever to the burning sensation.
2. Bruises

Bruising can occur anywhere, including on the penis. What caused it? According to Dr. Jamin Brahmbhatt, urology surgeon and director of The PUR Clinic, United States, could be due to masturbation, having rough sex, bumping into something, or being pinched by a zipper.
Fortunately, if the bruise is not severe it will not cause pain and the color of the bruise will fade by itself in a few days. But if the bruise doesn’t heal and it gets bigger then take your father or son to see a doctor, Moms!
3. Purpura

The effects of certain drugs, nutritional deficiencies, bleeding or blood clots, to the swelling of blood vessels can cause purpura. The shape is like a small, purple or reddish lump on the skin, and often occurs on the penis, buttocks, lower legs and elbows. Although not painful, purpura can be accompanied by abdominal pain, joint pain, or swelling and pain in the scrotum.
4. Lichen sclerosus

Lichen sclerosus is a skin disorder in the genital and anal areas that is characterized by white patches and can develop into purple spots. Actually this condition does not only apply to men, because women can also be affected.

“Many types of drugs can trigger allergic reactions,” said Dr. Ramin
He further explained if the cause of penile discoloration due to drugs derived from antibiotics, pain relievers (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen), and anti-seizure or antipsychotic drugs.
If the rash is accompanied by exfoliation or pain, the father may have Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Although this is a rare case, but the possibility of men affected by Stevens-Johnson syndrome is twice that of women.
“Having autoimmune disorders can also increase the risk,” added Dr. Ramin
