Birth

The 25 of April of 1924 in Indianola , Mississippi was an influential guitarist and singer American of Blues . His real name was Albert Nelson. Although he was left-handed, he learned to play the guitar as if he were right-handed, a fact that contributed to the distinctive sounds he played.

Your recordings

He made his first recordings in Indiana , Chicago , ( 1952 – 1954 ) and in Saint Louis ( 1956 – 1964 ). In 1966 he signed a contract with Stax Records of Memphis, at that time a major blues and soul record label . During his contract with this record company, King played with such bands as Booker T and the MGs on the album Born Unde a Bad Sign ( 1967). The title track of the album, along with others like “Crosscut Saw”, became classics and King became famous outside the blues circuits, especially among rock guitarists, who imitated his guitar solos.

His next Stax album, Live Wire / Blues Power ( 1968 ), was recorded live at the famed Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco . In the 1970s , the use of trumpets and saxophones added a funk element to his music, even after the end of the Stax contract. On the 1986 album I’m In a Phone Booth, Baby, whose central theme was written by young jazz musician Robert Cray, King returned to a purer blues sound.

Death

He died on December 21 , 1992 .
