10 ways to clear history of visited sites

Are you worried that someone might violate your privacy by peeking into your PC browser to see the sites you’ve visited? Here are all the ways to clear the history of visited sites and leave no trace.

Anything we do with a computer leaves a trace . So, if you’ve spent the afternoon surfing the internet , your PC has logged all the sites visited in the history . If you have a shared PC or you just know someone can easily access your computer, then these people can know everything you’ve done!

Don’t panic though, in a few simple clicks you can delete the history of sites visited by your PC , so that your privacy will be protected and no one will be able to know which sites you have visited while browsing the web. Let’s look in detail at how to delete the computer history based on the browser you use, also focusing on the possibility of deleting only a single site from the history.

How to clear Internet Explorer and Edge history

Clear history with Firefox

Clear the Google Chrome history

Make Safari forget the history

Incognito browsing without history

How to clear Internet Explorer and Edge history

If you have Windows 10 or an earlier version and use Internet Explorer to clear the history click on the wheel at the top right of any web page and select Internet Options. In the General tab, click Delete . A new window will open and make sure there is a check mark on the items that from top to bottom are the second, third and fourth (Temporary internet files, Cookies and History) and finally click on Delete. If you want to remove a single website from the history , click on the star at the top right, choose the History table, find the site you want to delete, right click on it and select Delete!

In case you have Windows 10 but use Edge to browse the web then to delete the history you have to open any web page and click on the three dots at the top right. A drop-down menu will open, from which you have to select “Settings” and from here “Choose items to delete”. A list will appear, of which you will have to tick the first three elements:

Chronology;

Cookie;

Cached data and files.

Click on cancel and that’s it! In this way you will have deleted all data concerning your navigation . If you want to clean up the history from a single website , click on the star with the tail at the top right, select History and you will see all the sites visited. Find the one you want to delete and click on the X that appears on the right.

Clear history with Firefox

If deleting the history with Explorer and Edge is easy, with Firefox it is a real breeze!

Launch the browser and click on the horizontal lines at the top right. Select History and Clear Recent History . A window will open: at the top it will let you choose the time frame of the history you want to delete. If you want to remove it completely , select All, otherwise you can opt for the last two hours of navigation and the like. Finally, check the items in the list:

Browsing history;

Cookie;

Cache;

Accesses made.

Then click Cancel Now .

If you want to delete a single web page from your visited sites , from the menu select History and View history. Once you have identified the site to remove, right-click on it and select Forget This Site.

Clear the Google Chrome history

The process for deleting the Chrome history is very similar to that of Firefox. Open any internet page and click on the three dots at the top right, select Other tools and from there Navigation data. From the window that opens, select the time frame of the history you want to remove, opting for All if you want to delete the entire list of visited sites. Check the first 4 items in the list (Browsing history, Download history, Cookies and Cached images and files) and click on Clear browsing file .

To delete a single website , however, always go to the three dots at the top right and select History, and then again History on the menu that will open on the left. You will see all the sites visited. Once you have identified the one you want to delete, click on the three dots on the right and select Remove from history.

Make Safari forget the history

If you use an Apple computer and use Safari , you have surely noticed that in the menu bar at the top center there is the item History . If you want to delete it, click on it and select the item Clear history. The window that opens will give you the possibility to check the records of all the sites visited or of a more limited time frame. Once you have made your choice, all you have to do is click on Clear history and it’s done!

To delete a single site from your records, simply select History from the menu bar at the top of the browser, choose Show History and right-click on the site you want to remove from the history , selecting Delete.

Incognito browsing without history

If you don’t want to be there to delete your history every time , at the risk of forgetting it, there is a navigation mode that allows you to visit all the websites you want without leaving a trace in the PC history: incognito browsing !

All browsers give this possibility (perhaps calling it with different names such as “InPrivate Browsing” , but the concept is the same). To browse incognito, all you have to do is open a web page and click on the three dots or dashes of your browser at the top right. Choose the item New incognito window, or New InPrivate window, or Anonymous browsing, based on the name your browser uses.

Well, now you can visit all the sites you want, knowing that no one will be able to find a trace once you have learned how to delete the history of the sites visited by PC .
