The first tests of this system were made with several devices, mainly Nokia N800 and Open GL ES technology as a graphic developer, based on the NoBounds project developed by Nokia Research Center.
A little later Nokia Research Center joined the company CE4A (Consumer Electronics for Automotive) to continue the development and get a final version.
The official presentation was made during the 2010 Geneva Motor Show (still as a prototype), although at that time the name was not yet MirrorLink but Terminal Mode.

In 2011 Nokia and the CE4A decided to join forces permanently and give rise to what is now known as the CCC (Car Connectivity Consortium) . This union caused that in 2011 Terminal Mode was officially renamed MirrorLink .
