What is Facebook and what are its functions?

In our daily lives, we constantly wear different masks (our work faces, faces when traveling, friendly faces …) even this habit really happens on social media. We are in complete control of what we share with outside contacts, or the World Wide Web. We can reinvent ourselves completely. So: are you ready to wear a new mask and join the most used social network: Facebook?

Facebook: History

Whether you just want to download the Facebook application to find family members or want to create your own Facebook group, you will soon be stricken with social media fever. Facebook was created in 2004 and will celebrate its 14th birthday on February 3, 2018. Mark Zuckerberg is the inventor and CEO of this social networking site. In 2017, Facebook was the third most visited website after Google and YouTube and, as of June 2017, had more than 2 billion users worldwide. This number includes more than 80% of Indonesia’s population! Facebook was created at Harvard University and was originally designed asa way for students to connect with each other. Open it immediately to other universities before it is available to the public in September 2006. Anyone who has an email address and above the age of 13 can create a Facebook account. In April 2008, the Facebook Messenger application began to be used. This is an IM application that allows you to talk with your Facebook friends in private conversations.

What are the Facebook Functions?

Site names are taken from pamphlets with the names of staff and students as well as pictures that were distributed at the beginning of the school year at US universities. Facebook allows users to publish images, photos, YouTube videos, personal ads, documents; exchange messages, create and join groups, create professional sites. The purpose behind social networking is to connect people. Facebook allows users to enter personal data such as relationship status, where they study and their interests. Find and take East Jakarta computer courses and computer courses in Surabaya here.

How to Open a Facebook Account

As it evolves, Facebook has added new functions but also aims to simplify the creation of accounts to attract more Internet users to the site and make them re-visit the page.

Create a Facebook account on a computer

Creating your own Facebook account does not require certain IT skills; no need to register in the code course to create your account. This is relatively easy if you follow these simple steps:

  • Open the search engine of your choice (Google, Yahoo, Ecosia …) and enter “facebook” in the search bar, then click the link that appears OR
  • Type “www.facebook.com” in your url window

When you first enter the Facebook website, this is the page that you should get. Screenshot of Focke

  • Pages like the one above will appear. The page is divided into two: at the top right, you will find a button labeled “enter” when you already have an account; at the bottom right the registration form will appear. Note that registering is free and will stay that way: Facebook is funded through advertising.
  • Enter your first and last name; they will appear on your Facebook profile and in the Facebook search engine in the order that you entered. So remember, first name, then last name, don’t turn them over – people who are looking for you are more likely to enter your name in that order. If you prefer to use a pseudonym, it’s time to enter it. It is possible to change your name every 60 days.
  • Then enter your mobile number or your e-mail address: choose a phone number or e-mail address that you regularly check if you forget your password and need to send it to you. You will also be notified if someone has hacked your account. If you decide to use an email address, a new box will appear asking you to confirm it.
  • You then need to choose a password for Facebook. The length must be at least 6 characters long and include letters and punctuation. For better security, choose a complicated password and avoid numbers like your birthday or any information that can be easily accessed by strangers by browsing the Internet (your dog’s name, your husband’s birthday …) Enter your date of birth . Facebook is closed to those under 13 years old. Then enter your gender.
  • Click on the “Create account” button.
  • You will be asked to confirm your account via a message in your mailbox. Follow the link and click the “Confirm account” button

Creating a Facebook account on a smartphone or tablet is similar to the one described here. Simply open AppleStore or Playstore to download the application. Look at different computer courses online.

How to find friends on Facebook

After you confirm your Facebook account, you have opened a window to a new world. You can invite people to be your friends. Your Facebook account is linked to your email address, so the first time you log in, social networks will propose friends to you from the address book that is already on Facebook. You can then “add” them as friends (or not). You can also skip this step by clicking “next” on the lower right of the screen.

How to use Facebook

After you finish creating your account, you will be asked to edit your profile page.

Create your profile page

So what information should you provide on your Facebook profile? Add a profile picture or picture: choose the latest so people who know you recognize you and can accept your friend’s request. You can also add a header image, your family, a nice landscape from your last vacation … At the top right, you can also modify your profile: You will be asked to write a bio describing yourself in a few words, to choose a featured image ( some favorite pictures that will help people get to know you better) and you can modify your “about” page. On the “about” page, you can enter:

  • Where you study and where you work: workplace, competencies, universities, schools
  • Where you have lived: place of birth, current place of residence …
  • General information: Your email does not appear on your profile, but you can choose to make it visible along with your telephone number, address, website (we will recommend this post only if you create a business page); religion, political opinion …
  • Family and relationships: the relationship status of you and your family members
  • Details about you
  • Important life experiences (your birthdays are usually entered automatically)

Some other information can be recorded, such as sports, music, movies, TV programs, books – your profile is a genuine identity card; It’s up to you to decide what you want to share with your friends or potential clients.

After you enter all your data, your profile page will look like this. The small square image at the top left is your profile picture, the large horizontal image in your header. Photo credit: Sean MacEntee in Visual Hunt
