What does the Character Path affect in Honkai: Star Rail

A detailed guide on all available Character Paths, what they give, how the system of roles in a team works

There are many playable characters in the world of Honkai: Star Rail, and each of them belongs to a certain Path, uses the damage of a certain elemental element in battle. The type of damage determines whether the character will be able to break through the defense (Vulnerability) of the enemy, as a result of which he will not be able to move and will receive more damage.

As for the character’s Path, it determines his role in the team. The paths correspond to the Aeons of this world – powerful divine beings, superior to all other creations. Herta, after which the space station of the same name is named, will invite you to go to the Virtual Universe, where, in addition to valuable rewards, you can also get more information about the Aeons.

Path of Destruction

The protagonist of Honkai: Star Rail, the Pathfinder, follows the Path of Destruction at the start of the game. This Path has a bit of everything: Destruction characters deal massive damage to enemies and have certain abilities that increase their survivability.

At low levels, support abilities are often unavailable, so the true potential of such characters is revealed at a higher level. Characters following this Path can also deal massive damage to both single targets and multiple enemies at once.

Since the characters of the Path of Destruction are universal, you can safely invest in them and not worry about wasted funds. In the end, you will have to upgrade as many heroes as possible.

Path of Abundance

Following the Paths of Yaoshi, Age of Plenty, such characters focus more on healing the team than on damaging the enemy. While each of them still has a basic attack with which they can deal some damage, most Path of Abundance abilities are based on healing a single ally or the entire group.

You’ll even get one Path of Plenty character for free. Continue to complete the story missions, and you will soon unlock Natasha. If you have a Path of Plenty character in the squad, you can significantly increase the survivability of all team members.

Path of the Hunt

Hunting is a Path that will allow you to inflict massive damage on opponents. Those who follow this Path have devoted their lives to hunting the undead. Characters in this Path specialize in single-target damage, making them great for boss fights.

Some heroes of the Path of Destruction can deal good damage to single targets, but these numbers will never exceed the numbers that “hunters” of the same level can give out. Although the downside is that the Hunt heroes are unable to attack multiple targets at once, which is not very convenient if you are facing low-level but numerous enemies.

Conservation Path

Cheetah is one of the characters of the Way of Preservation, which is present on the standard banner. This Path is supported by the Aeon named Qliphoth. The task of these characters is to protect their team at all costs, which means that they have phenomenal defensive skills, including damage reduction and shields.

They can place certain debuffs on enemies, delaying or canceling their turn, which in turn reduces the overall damage taken by your team. Although such heroes are unlikely to deal significant damage to opponents, they will still be useful to any team, as they will significantly increase the survivability of the rest of the characters.

The characters of Abundance and Preservation are somewhat different from each other, but they have one goal – to protect their allies. Replenishment characters primarily heal allies, while Preserve characters focus on preventing damage they take.

Path of Erudite

The Path of Erudition includes characters that are used to deal damage to multiple targets at once. The multi-target attack damage of these characters will always be higher than the multi-target damage of any other Path, but they usually only have the Vulnerability (Toughness) debuff inflicted on enemies. Ideally, these characters should not be used against bosses.

Path of Nothingness

The Aeon of the Path of Nothingness does not believe in interacting with others. According to legend, IX does not even contact other Aeons. One of the representatives of this Path is Welt. The character of the Unbeing from the standard banner, which boasts some of the coolest animations of his abilities. Eternal characters are known to focus on debuffing opponents. These debuffs can range from immobilization to reduced damage resistance, causing the enemy to attack less often and take more damage.

Path of Harmony

The Path of Harmony is the exact opposite of Non-Being. Instead of placing negative effects on opponents, these characters apply positive buffs to their allies. The Aeon of Harmony called Shipe is known for ruling over many worlds, trying to bring Harmony to each.

Such characters can increase the damage dealt by allies, making them a great addition to Paths like Erudite, Hunting, and Destruction. If you’re going to fight bosses, it’s important to have at least one Path of Harmony character on your team.
