What are effective PvP strategies in Minecraft?.

A few simple tactics:

However, be sure to keep up your defensive enchantments.
If you are in close combat, try to circle your opponent + jump while left clicking. This is a common tactic, so expect your opponent to do it too. Jumping grants you critical hits, which can deal up to 50% more damage. Try to change direction often, as it is easy to counter it by simply hitting a little ahead of where you are.
It can be much easier to kill them with a bow, which negates the danger of the enemy quickly depleting your health, unless they are a better shooter than you. You can shoot them a couple of times before going into close combat, as they will come in with slightly decreased health. If you have a fire aspect enchantment on your bow, then they will come in slowly burning to death. It is also a good way to take down a fleeing enemy.

There are some good tactics for PvP,

Don’t get shot: If you’re in pvp with a good archer, you need to dodge those arrows. Run in a zigzag to throw off your aim.
Don’t let your armor break: If you find that your armor is weak, run! The worst thing that can happen in pvp is losing your helmet or boots.
Mcmmo: If you play on a server with the Mcmmo plugin, be sure to level up your skills in this order. 1.Unarmed 2.Axes 3.Archery (only if you’re good at it) 4.Acrobatics.
Identify Hackers – Wondering why they hit you while a player isn’t looking at you? Well those are hacks, and they are very common in pvp, eating / drinking and hitting at the same time is not possible without a hacked client. Is someone shaking their head and going from one player to another? That is a hack. Don’t use hacks yourself.
Gapples: If you don’t know what a gapple is, it’s an enchanted golden apple. If you have them, use them. Don’t waste the gapples and drain your resources. If you have a decent gold farm, don’t be shy about wearing your gapples.
