Three-Player Buraco: How It Works

Burraco is a card game that is now famous and known throughout the world. Coming from South America and derived from the pinnacle and canasta, it arrived in Italy in the second half of the eighties.

Its great simplicity in the basic version, and at the same time, the possibility of implementing multiple game strategies, have made it so popular that it has become, in a short time, the card game of the moment. He has passionate seniors and juniors of both sexes, easily undermining the traditional pastimes of the past, such as broom, tressette and tressette.

The ease with which to find players, ready to donate their membership fee, has led charities, including, Red Cross, Lions, Rotari, Advar, to rely on clubs to organize events, sometimes prestigious and elegant, which combine the fun of the game to charity.

Over time, different variations of the game have developed, you can play from 2 to 4 players, and the aim is to compose combinations of at least 3 cards (three of a kind or straight) and to drop all 11 starting cards.

Let’s talk now about the 3-player variant. The peculiarity consists in the fact that the pairs are formed only during the game and can be different at each hand, this does not allow the usual frontal arrangement between companions. Another feature lies in the formation of the two wells, in fact one will be 18 cards, the other 11 cards, while the usual 11 cards are distributed to each player.

Those left to the dealer, after the creation of the pits and distribution to the players, are placed on top of those left to the player to his right forming the “heel”. At this point the top card of the stock is turned over and we begin.

The game proceeds as in the 2-player version, each playing on their own, taking cards from the stock or the discard pile, opening new games or adding cards to the games already on the table. The first player to go out will take the 18-card pool. The remaining players become companions, combine their games to take the 11-card pool and play against the single player.

From here on we proceed as for the classic version of the game, until either the couple or the single player will close a second time, always, clearly, having done at least one Burraco first.

For the scoring, the only difference is that the single player will have all the points scored, while the couple will have to split the score equally. The game strategy is tactically the same as the 2-player version, everyone will avoid putting their games on the table so as not to provide information to the opponents. Everything changes after the 18 well is taken, at this point the single player will continue to play hidden and the two in pairs will have to play face up, but with the advantage of passing the cards at least one way. The goal of 1505 points determines the winning of the game.

However, whether it is for two, three or more players, the game of Burraco allows all fans to switch off and spend some carefree time with friends, diverting attention from everyday life and from the hardships of a day’s work. For this purpose, the online versions of Burraco (for example the Burraconline site ) are ideal.
