Chapter List

What Is Tasamuh ???

Tasamuh is an Arabic word for tolerance. The word tolerance itself also has a lot of understanding. Can tolerance itself, tolerance, grace, and generous. The essence of tasamuh or tolerance is actually to maintain a personal opinion but still be willing to accept the opinions of others. Whether it’s from all aspects of life, both religion, culture, social conditions, nationality and society.

If in a country consisting of various tribes, religions, races, cultures, language is added. Of course it is very necessary attitude tasamuh or tolerance. This is something that is natural and indeed must be held for every human being.

This tasamuh attitude also teaches us about tolerance among religious people. So as human beings who are also given a social soul, they will surely help one another. Regardless of ethnicity, religion, race and culture

Because we also have to know that the name of these differences must be addressed with a cool head alias not easily angry, and do whatever you want. This is to avoid quarrels, hostilities and disputes between humans with other humans.

We can make an example of what happened to the prophet himself in the city of Medina. Which at that time in Medina consisted of several residents who were not yet Muslim. Although different from the Prophet Muhammad, the population still maintains a high tolerance. So that all residents in the place also feel peace and there is no sense of coercion

Another small example is when someone is riding his motor vehicle and then passes through a village. So he still maintains the sound of his motorbike and doesn’t blast it. So directly the person has applied tasamuh attitude in himself.

Dalil – Dalil Tasamuh

In some of the statements below also explained that as people of faith we must be able to be people who always do good deeds and do not hate each other. Whether it’s sourced from the Qur’an and the Hadith.

Meaning:

“O you who believe, you should be those who always uphold (the truth) because of Allah, be a fair witness. And do not ever have your hatred towards a people, pushing you to be unjust. Be fair, because fair is closer to piety. And fear Allah, indeed Allah is All-Knowing what you are doing “(Surah Al-Maidah (5): 8)

Meaning:

“Believers are truly brothers. Therefore reconcile (improve the relationship) between your two brothers and fear God, so that you may receive mercy ”(al-Hujuraat (49): 10)

Rasulullah SAW himself also explained about this tasamuh through several hadith narrated by his friends. Among them:

حدثنا قتادة, عن أنس, عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: لا يؤمن أحدكم حتى يحب لأخيه ما يحب لنفسه .

Meaning:

Having told us Qatadah, from Anas radhiyallaahu ‘ anhu , from the Prophet Muhammad SAW he said: “Imperfect faith among all of you, so that the person loves his brother as he loves himself” (Narrated by Bukhari)

.. الخ

Meaning:

From az-Zuhri said, telling me Anas bin Malik radhiyallaahu ‘ anhu , actually Rasulullah SAW said: “Do not hate each other, envy each other, and turn away from each other, and be all of you as servants of God who are brothers … (Narrated by Bukhari) )

Tasamuh function

If we have learned little by little about some of the above, surely we will know about the function of the tasamuh itself. The function of tasamuh here is;

  3. Creating a sense of harmony between religious communities with each other
