Solution: I can’t write to Windows 10 Startup

Windows updates can sometimes cause some problems that we are not aware of until we see them, in this case we are talking about the inability to write when we open the Windows 10 menu or we want to write something in the applications that are native to Windows 10 such as the “Settings” application.

These types of errors can happen when we update our equipment or, for example, we have ever edited the Windows registry . The error we are focusing on is that we cannot write to the Windows 10 Start menu or native operating system applications, all the fault of a system application that does not start at startup.

The fact that we cannot write in the Windows 10 Start menu or in its applications is due to the fact that the “ctfmon.exe” program does not start , so the computer will not recognize that you are writing in the places mentioned before.

This file is related to the recognition of writing, speech and text input via keyboard , it runs in the background when we use an application from the Office suite. It is true that sometimes it can be used to camouflage the odd virus, but if it is found in the Windows “system32” folder we have nothing to fear. Here’s how to fix this error.

VCRUNTIME140.dll file is missing: solution in Windows

Add “ctfmon.exe” to Windows startup

One of the easiest ways to solve this problem is to add the program to the list of executable files at system startup so that it runs in the background. Follow these steps for this solution:

  • The first thing is to locate the folder “C: \ Windows \ system32” in this folder you will see the program “ctfmon.exe” .
  • This program must be copied and pasted in the path:

C: \ Users \ Javier \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Start Menu \ Programs \ Startup

  • Once pasted inside, this application will start automatically in the background when we turn on our computer and thus we can write in the Windows 10 Start menu and native apps.

Create a desktop shortcut and run it manually

Another possibility that we have, although it may be more laborious, would be to manually execute said file, the most logical thing would be to create a direct access to the desktop of this file, to do this, follow these steps:

  • Locate the file in the same path we mentioned before.
  • Now click with the right mouse button on the “ctfmon.exe” program.
  • In the contextual menu that will appear we will select “Send to” followed by ” Desktop (create shortcut)” .
  • The next step will be to run that program every time you start Windows 10 so that the problem is solved.

The destination path does not appear, what do I do?

Many times Windows hides folders or directories for safety so that we do not accidentally delete a folder from the system, therefore the following folder:

C: \ Users \ Javier \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Start Menu \ Programs \ Startup “

It is hidden and in order to see it we will have to follow these steps:

  • Access the path “C: \ Users \ your user” (depending on your username in Windows), here you will have to look in the upper bar of the window for the option “Vista” .
  • Now you will have to activate this box “Hidden elements” , this way you will be able to see all the hidden folders of the system and thus be able to access the destination path to paste the “ctfmon.exe” file.

Now that we know how we can solve the impossibility of writing in the Windows 10 Start menu and its applications, we can be more calm and search for all kinds of applications and content on our computer.
