Snapchat is a mobile application dedicated to sending files, which “disappear” from the recipient’s device between one and ten seconds after they have been viewed. It was developed by Artur Celeste , Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown .

History
Snapchat was created by Brown, Whatsong, and Spiegel as a project for one of their Stanford classes, where the latter was a final-year product design student. He started with the name “Picaboo” to post photos and quickly destroy them so that no one else would see them. They later decided to have Murphy code the app. When Spiegel showed the app as a final project for his product design class in April 2011 , his classmates objected to the idea of the non-permanent photos.
Snapchat has been among the most downloaded applications worldwide together with Facebook Whatsapp Twitter YouTube among others, and more and more users are emerging who call themselves SnapChatters for their content and for the number of people who follow it such as Instagram or YouTube
In May 2012 , 25 images were sent per second and by November of that same year, more than a million photos had been shared through the IOS Snapchat application. This application began to be sold for Android on November 29, 2012.
In November 2013 Facebook tried to buy Snapchat for an amount of $ 3 billion, an amount higher than the revenue generated by the application at that time. However, its creators saw great potential in it so they decided to reject this offer, which, curiously, was repeated some time later and was again rejected.
Kleiner Perkins , a Silicon Valley equity firm , negotiated a financial deal with Snapchat in August 2014 , when the company was valued at $ 10 billion and had 100 million monthly active users.
Snapchat’s first paid ad, in the form of a 20-second video about the horror movie Ouija, was released to users on October 19 , 2014 .
Advantage
The application allows users to take photos, record videos, add texts and drawings and send them to a limited contact list. These videos and photos are known as “Snaps” and users can control how long they will be visible (from 1 to 10 seconds long), after which they will disappear from the recipient’s screen and will be deleted from the Snapchat server . According to Snapchat, in May 2014users sent 1.4 billion photos and videos a day, while stories were viewed about 500 million times a day. At the end of August of that same year, the company was valued at US $ 10 billion. The application is available for iPhone and Android on both for free. In November 2014, Snapchat added the “Snapcash” feature, which allows you to send money through the app. The service is supported by Square on security issues.
Functioning
Snapchat works in a similar way to an instant messaging app, allowing you to add contacts and send them messages in the form of photos or videos. The main difference is that you select the time that the receiver will be able to see that message (from 1 to 10 seconds) before it disappears.
That is, you send your photo, edit it if you want (you can put a filter, add a small text or draw on it) and send it to whoever you want specifying the time that they can access it. Then the user is notified that he has a message and can view it by clicking on the message.
With the new update before taking a selfie you can press your face and find some new filters in motion. With the current terms of service, Snapchat will have the possibility to use the photos and videos of the users – even publicly – without (theoretically) they can do anything to prevent it.
The ghost app also has the option of video calls. Unlike the other platforms, their way of activating the option is totally different, since instead of looking for a contact and calling, you and your friend must be here in the private area of the messaging and press the button in this case, it will turn blue at the same time.
Demographic information
Most of the users of this application have an average of 13 to 23 years of age. Snapchat is generally used to send selfies, called selfies, and 30% of them are sent to groups. Spiegel revealed in April 2013 at the Dive Into Mobile conference that 80% of Snapchat users were residents of the United States.
