Slideshare

Slideshare . It is a service to share the slideshows online . It is similar to what YouTube does with videos or Flickr with photos.

It also works as a social network for presentations, since it allows users to comment on the work of others, share them, rate them, create work groups, events, etc.

In a very short time it has become a great repository of online presentations, many of high quality.

History

Slideshare

This web 2.0 application is very comfortable, it was created on October 4, 2006, since it allows us to manage an account where we can file, publish and disseminate our presentations. The advantage of this service lies in the possibility of sharing without the need to attach large files in our emails and publish them on our website or blog.

How does Slideshare work?

The operation of Slideshare is simple. Simply register to create an account, and you will have a slidespace (personal space) where you can upload the presentations. The supported files are Power Point (ppt, pps, pot), OpenOffice (odp), and PDF. The maximum size allowed per file is 100Mb.

Slideshare tools

  • It has developed additional services that further complement its functionality, such as: SLIDECAST. This tool allows adding voice (narration) or music to a presentation placed on slideshare, achieving a synchronization of the sound file with the slides.
  • It has recently incorporated the possibility of integrating video clips previously published on YouTube into a presentation already uploaded to SlideShare .

features

  • It allows us to store files of up to 20 MB of space with our presentations, adding name, description and tags. The possibility of files in pdf format is also supported.
  • Once our presentation is stored and processed, it is converted into flash format, and a URL (permalink) is assigned to it. There are no privacy options. There is the possibility to search for presentations, leave comments on them, share them via email or embed them on our website.
  • It also allows you to embed the presentations that you have uploaded to your own website , blog or wiki . It also allows you to send the link of the presentation by e-mail .

Advantage

  • Lets give lectures without having to load the presentation.
  • The presentation can be viewed from any PC
  • Simply by opening a web page.
  • It’s easier to share a work presentation with other colleagues.
  • It allows to send presentations with several megabytes, difficult to send by mail.
  • Just hanging it on Slideshare sends the link address.
  • Spam from friends is avoided.
  • The application allows you to comment on the presentations.
  • They can be classified with Tags. That is, a keyword that associates them and informs the content.
  • Presentations can be embedded in any web page, such as a blog.

Disadvantages

  • At an educational level, Powerpoint presentations are a very limited format
  • They are of little value if there is no presenter explaining and expanding the information.
  • Sound and picture cannot be combined. As a presenter who takes the exhibition or story of what you want to show. Unless a Slidecast audio narration file is created.
  • Animations are not supported. They are static.
  • Sometimes the incompatibility of the formats produces some alterations in the presentations after uploading it to Slideshare.
