For a bank to open a checking account, the customer must meet the requirements of the financial institution.
Among the requirements that banks generally request is that the client demonstrate financial solvency to maintain sufficient funds in the current account and thus face the payments of the operations carried out through the account (using checks, debit card or other ).
Banks have different ways of evaluating customer solvency, which is why different current account plans are offered, which are tailored to these characteristics.
In any case, according to the rules of the Commission for the Financial Market, through Chapter 2-2 of the Updated Compilation of Rules, to open a current account a bank must request, as a minimum, the following information from the customer:
- Take note of the Identity Card and the Unique Tax Role of the interested party, who for this purpose must display the original documents.
- Ask the interested party for a recent photograph (passport or passport size), which will be added to the document that records their personal history.
- Ask the interested party to stamp their digital print (right thumb) on the same document indicated above, and the bank must ensure its sharpness.
- Collect updated bank reports of the interested party and verify that there are no prohibitions for the opening of current accounts.
- Record the signature of the drawer (the account holder who will sign the checks).
- Obtain information about the activity and solvency of the client.
- Check the address of the interested party.
- Sign a document with the interested party that contains the general conditions relating to the current account that is opened.
