Reasons to work as an announcer

The announcers are  communication professionals  who carry out their work in different media and whose functions can be very varied, although always related to the instrument of their trade: the voice. For a professional announcer his voice is equivalent to what a musical instrument is to a musician or what surgical material is to a surgeon.

Announcers are part of the soundtracks of our lives. The voices of professionals such as Matías Prats (father, son and grandson), Luis del Olmo, José Ramón de la Morena, Carlos Herrera and Julia Otero have accompanied the experiences of generations and generations of Spaniards. Who can forget the mythical cry of José Ángel de la Casa, “Goal of the Lord!” in the historic 12-1 of Spain-Malta in 1983, or, for younger generations, the “Iniesta of my life!” José Antonio Camacho in the final of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

And not only is  the work of the announcers  at playful events essential , there are not a few occasions when their voices become authentic beacons that illuminate dark moments in history. During the coup attempt of 23F 1981, with TVE occupied by the rebellious troops, Spain could only know the development of events thanks to the radio voices of professional speakers such as José María García and Rosa María Mateo, who, literally uploaded on the cars , and risking their lives, they informed some Spaniards fearful of losing their newly acquired liberties. The examples would be innumerable, the work of the announcers is absolutely essential in any democratic society.

WHERE CAN I WORK AS AN ANNOUNCER

One of the  most important reasons to choose to be a professional announcer  is the wide range of professional opportunities that this profession offers:

Professional radio and TV announcer

The natural medium of the professional announcer has always been radio, where his only means of communicating is the voice. The radio began its journey in the distant year of 1906, the date of the first broadcast in history, broadcast in the American state of Massachusetts. Despite the fact that for decades it has been said that radio is in crisis due to the push of media such as television, the truth is that more than  25 million people continue to listen to radio  daily in our country.

Countless radio stations populate the waves at national, regional and local levels. Even new technologies favor this medium, being able to open an internet station at any time today. The headhunters of large communication groups are always on the hunt for new talent in this medium.

Although body expressiveness is very important in the television medium, it is the locution that really manages to reach the viewer. This is why, although your aspiration is to work on television, you should take care to prepare your voice, to educate it so that it is capable of transmitting the smallest nuances.

Professional announcer for advertising agencies

Advertising is one of the most powerful sectors of a society as media as ours. Television, radio and, to a large extent, the internet, live off advertising. There is not a single economic sector that does not need marketing, being one of the most used resources commercial spaces and voice announcements. There are  countless spots that are recorded annually  by hundreds of thousands of companies of all kinds, so gaining a foothold in this field ensures a long and highly paid professional career.

Professional announcer of video producers

These types of companies are not only engaged in advertising and promotional work, they are also in charge of recording corporate videos of the companies. Keep in mind is the unstoppable boom in audiobooks , which is skyrocketing the demand for professional broadcasters.

Event presenter

Countless events of all kinds are held throughout the year, both in the private and public sectors. Presenting conferences, symposiums, festivals, product presentations, store openings … All  require communication professionals  capable of entertaining and informing attendees.

Voice actor

Both for cinema and television series. It is a more restricted market, but in which if you put your foot, you will never lack work. If you are lucky enough to get the voice of some acting star, your quote will reach significant figures. There are quite a few  voice actors  who, in addition to their work, do voice over work for radio and television.

As you can see, there are not a few job opportunities offered by being a professional broadcaster; the most important thing is that you have a vocation. The rest comes with training, discipline, and effort.
