Protective masks: 5 tips to avoid fogging in glasses

Wearing a washable cloth protective mask is more and more frequent in Quebec to avoid contaminating other citizens with its own droplets and spray.

However, for those who have glasses, wearing a mask often comes with an inconvenience that interferes with vision: the fog on the glasses.

To prevent fogging of the glasses while wearing a protective mask , here are some tips.

  1. HAVE A FITTING MASK

Fog is created on the lenses of the glasses when the hot air which escapes from your mouth goes up and reaches your glasses. You must therefore choose a mask with an adjustable band that will allow you to “stick” the top of the mask to your nose and cheeks. The hot air will therefore not be able to escape from the top and cloud your vision.

  1. USE ANTI-FOG PRODUCT

There are anti-fog products on the market, often in vaporizer form, that prevent condensation from forming on spectacle lenses of all kinds. It is important to follow the indications on the product you choose in order to have an optimal result.

  1. CLEAN YOUR GLASSES WITH SHAVING FOAM

This trick is sort of the DIY version of the previous point. It consists of cleaning your glasses with shaving foam and gently rubbing both sides with a microfiber cloth. Then rinse everything with hot water and let it air dry.

  1. USE A HANDKERCHIEF

Place a handkerchief folded horizontally between the top of the protective mask and your face. The latter will absorb the moisture that would want to sneak in the direction of your glasses. For this trick to be successful, the mask must be adjustable as in the first point of this article.

  1. DROP THE TOP OF THE MASK

To apply this technique, your mask must be large enough. To prevent hot air from escaping, you can fold the upper part inward before putting on the mask. This way, the hot air will be blocked, and redirected downwards.

* Remember that wearing a mask does not replace measures like hand washing and social distancing.
