Minecraft Frequently Asked Questions

Where to begin?

If you’re new to Minecraft, be sure to check out the Beginner’s Guide for step-by-step instructions on surviving your first night in a new world. Also, the versions of the game for all platforms support an achievement system (on the PC by pressing ESC in the game), which can help new players in the beginning by defining clear goals like collecting wood, creating a workbench, etc.

2.How to collect / mine wood, earth, stone, etc.?

To collect a resource, approach it and aim the “sight” at it. Hold down the left mouse button on PC / Mac or R on Xbox 360, which will make your character start mining with your hand or tool if available. The selected block will gradually collapse and eventually disappear after dropping the same block (the button must be held down, repeated pressing does not destroy the block). If it dropped out next to you (and you have free space in your inventory), then the block will be automatically picked up. The speed of mining a block depends on its strength (sand is mined lighter than diamond), the type of tool used (shovels dig the ground faster than picks) and the material from which it is made (iron picks are mined more than stone picks, gold are the fastest, and diamond are the strongest).

3.How to restore health?

Health is restored by eating various foods. Since version 1.8.1, food restores the hunger scale completely, and only after that health. The exceptions are golden apples and (since version 1.9) some potions that immediately restore health. Also, at the Peaceful difficulty level, health is restored automatically over time. Remember that cooked food satisfies hunger better than raw food.

4.Difficulty level “Peaceful” for children?

No. The difficulty “Mirny” is suitable for both beginners and experienced players. All aggressive creatures are absent at this level. In this case, health is automatically restored over time, and the hunger scale is always full. Since building is the most interesting part of Minecraft, the “peaceful” difficulty allows you to focus on the best side of the game. Since monsters are disabled, you don’t need to worry about Creepers destroying your buildings.

However, remember that mobs are a source of rare resources such as bones and gunpowder that are not available in other ways. When playing on “peaceful” difficulty, you will not encounter monsters and, accordingly, you will not receive these items.

“Peaceful” difficulty is the best option for builders, miners, farmers, and simply for quietly exploring the world.

5.How do I build something?

If you want to build something, check out the Crafting Guide . On Xbox 360, recipes are built into the interface, so if you have all the ingredients to craft an item, just start crafting it.

6.What is Adventure Update?

The Adventure Update , also known as Beta 1.8, was an update to the Minecraft beta , adding many new features. You can see the full list of changes on the update page.

7.What is a “texture pack” or “mod”?

Mods and texture packs are only relevant for PC / Mac versions of the game. The texture pack allows you to change the appearance of all blocks in the game, completely changing the look of the game. Mods are game modifications that add new items or change the gameplay (for example, increased spawn of mobs, random generation of cities, nuclear reactors). Almost everything can be changed with mods, many are quite interesting, especially after you get comfortable with the basics of the game. Just google or search the game’s official forum. Despite the fact that neither texture packs nor mods are needed for Minecraft, they can significantly diversify the gameplay, and the API for modding under development will be able to significantly speed up the creation of new modifications.

8.What is alpha?

An alpha version means the game is still in early stages of development. At this stage, it is usually distributed to a small group of people for initial testing and bug fixes. In the case of Minecraft, the game started being distributed on a paid basis right from the alpha version, which is extremely unusual.

nine.What is beta?

The beta version of the game, like the alpha, is also under development, but much closer to the release version. The beta is usually distributed to a wider audience for feedback and minor bug fixes. Minecraft has already received release status and is no longer in beta.

ten.Can you complete Minecraft?

Yes. In beta 1.9, Notch added the Edge, a dimension that can be accessed through a natural portal. In this dimension, you can fight the dragon of the End, which, after death, leaves a portal to the ordinary world and an egg. When passing through the portal, you can see the end credits.

eleven.Who is Notch?

Notch is the pseudonym for Minecraft creator Markus Persson . On his blog (notch.tumblr.com), he spoke in detail about the development of the game. Resigned as lead designer to pursue another game project.

12.Where else can I find information on the game?

You can take a look at the official website of the game ( minecraftforum.net ) for detailed information on updates, download adventure maps, texture packs, mods, etc.
You can also visit the Minecraft Wiki ( minecraftwiki.net ) to explore any aspect of the game, view a list of mods and their detailed descriptions.
