Political left . It is a classification of the political positions that group together those whose central point is the defense of social equality [1] [2] [3] [4] . The political left is divided into a multitude of ideological branches.
The concept of the left has a very extensive and historical use in the political context since this word refers to one of the two most popular ideological tendencies (the other is its opponent, the right ) in the world. The left proposes among its fundamental maxims the change in the matter of social and economic structure, in order to achieve social equality, and as a consequence opposing the conservative proposal, quite distant from the change, supported by the political right [5] .
The term political left , like that of the political right , has its historical origin in the vote that took place on September 11 , 1789 in the National Constituent Assembly arising from the French Revolution in which the proposal of an article of the new Constitution in which the absolute veto of the king was established to the laws approved by the future Legislative Assembly . The deputies who were in favor of the proposal, which supposed the factual maintenance of absolute powerof the monarch, they were placed to the right of the president of the Assembly. Those who were against, and defended that the king only had the right to a suspensive veto and limited in time, therefore putting national sovereignty above royal authority, placed themselves to the left of the president. Thus the term “left” was associated with the political options that advocated political and social change, while the term “right” was associated with those who opposed such changes. [6]
