What do we know about Google Stadia

On March 19, 2019 Google announced a revolutionary novelty during the Game Developers Conference: the Google Stadia . Stadia is a subscription- based cloud gaming service linked directly to Google Chrome. It is therefore possible for the first time to play video games directly in streaming without the need for any hardware.

To be able to take advantage of Google Stadia all you need is a device compatible with Google Chrome or alternatively that has the ChromeOS operating system. The service will then be available on all PCs and mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. To be able to use Stadia also on TV you will need to have Chromecast .

Technical features

Developer Phil Harrison said during the Google Stadia announcement that the service will be available in 4K HDR at 60 fps . All this can happen thanks to the huge data center that Google has around the world. Through the cloud computing system , Google will process the video game data and then send the audio-video stream to the device on which you are using Stadia.

The quality of Google Stadia’s service will largely depend on the user ‘s bandwidth . According to some statements by Phil Harrison, to play at a resolution of 1080p at 60 fps you will need a connection of at least 25 mb / s in download. To play at a 4K resolution at 60 fps, the minimum connection required will be 30 mb / s. Google has announced that Stadia will also reach a resolution of 8K at 120 fps in the future.

Compatibility and controller

Regarding compatibility with various devices, it will be possible to use Stadia in the future also via console. In this regard, full compatibility with all joypads that can be used on the various devices on which Stadia works has already been announced . However, in the case of the TV it will be possible to play as mentioned via Chromecast thanks to a special joypad already shown during the announcement.

The Google Stadia service will be directly linked to Youtube . In fact, you can go from watching a video to playing directly in seconds. It will also be possible to share your game sessions in streaming directly on Youtube itself. This link between Stadia and Youtube reflects the name of the service itself. Stadia is, in Latin, the plural of “ Stadium ” and would represent a global collection of videogame content. Everyone can decide to sit down and watch what they want or actively play the titles they prefer.

Release date and available games

Regarding the release date, Google Stadia will arrive at the end of 2019, it is not yet known when exactly. The games that will be available immediately with the launch are: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Doom Eternal . In fact, these titles have already had the opportunity to be tested during the Stadia project and will therefore be available from launch. The complete catalog that Google Stadia will have has not yet been announced but a very high amount of content is expected. Similarly, the discussion about the price is still not clear. More details on the price and the official release date will be announced during the upcoming E3 in Los Angeles.
