How to Use Defenders’ Weapons: Tips for Using Assault Rifles, Machine Guns, Carbines, Submachine Guns, and Pistols

Insurgency: Sandstorm is a multiplayer shooter in which two teams fight against each other.

The main emphasis of the game developers is on the maximum realism of combat operations. To improve your chances of winning, you need to figure out how to properly use your faction’s weapons.

The main weapon for defenders

M16A4

  • Application:commander, gunner, observer, destroyer.

Instead of a fully automatic firing mode, the M16A4 assault rifle has a classic three-shot series. On the one hand, this approach allows you to save ammunition, on the other hand, it can cost you your life. You will die much more often without fully automatic fire mode if you are fighting at close range. The rest of the weapon corresponds to the American AR15 semi-automatic rifle, does not have any particular advantages or disadvantages. It is characterized by high accuracy with a single shot, which cannot be said when choosing to shoot three rounds at once.

There are several advantages over the HK G3. For example, you can attach an under-barrel grenade launcher if you play as the Destroyer class. You can switch to a smaller caliber and get ten more shots.

HK G3A3

Initially, the cost of this weapon was two battle points, but soon the developers realized their mistake. Although the G3 is an outdated technology, the German automatic rifle was far superior to other weapons in its range and direction. Thanks to its large caliber (7.62), it is possible to destroy thin walls and other shelters. It looks more like a combat weapon and is even useful as a sniper.

However, since the weapon has only 20 rounds per clip and high recoil, this option is not ideal for close combat. It takes too long to reload as the bipod will need to be folded down first. We recommend using the single fire mode, which will achieve high accuracy and save more ammunition. In close combat, shoot from the hip in semi-automatic mode. It will take some time to get used to this gameplay.

HK G36K

Another great German rifle. Modification of assault weapons with three firing modes – single, explosive (three rounds) and fully automatic. Can be upgraded using the Destroyer grenade launcher. At close range, the G36 looks powerful, but at medium range, using the semi-automatic mode, you know something is wrong. Therefore, the rifle in this regard loses to the standard Kalashnikov assault rifle.

Since the G36K is unsuitable as a sniper weapon, long range single fire is not very effective. Thus, the G36K is a good weapon as long as you use it within its operating range.

M4A1

  • Application:commander, gunner, observer, destroyer.

Successor to the M16. Five points for a rifle is really a lot, especially if you score additional modifications for the same points. However, the weapon is worth it. Close range performance is similar to G36K, but M4A1 is much better at medium range. Since the caliber of the weapon is smaller, it will take one more shot to kill. But the small recoil allows you to more effectively control the spread of bullets. The rifle will be more effective than the G36K even with single fire.

Remington Model 870

Good old “Remington”! It captivates with its cheapness. Take ammunition and a silencer to it, and go to destroy targets. At close range, you can kill opponents with literally one shot, especially with enhanced ammunition. Instead of Slug ammo, it is recommended to give preference to Flechett ammunition, which looks incredibly powerful.

And one more excellent weapon from German engineers. Characterized by a high rate of fire (better than MG). Recoil is barely noticeable, and the extended magazine holds 40 rounds. If you find yourself one on one against the enemy at close range, then the latter can only pray. At all other distances, the weapon is useless. On the other hand, it is only available to the breecher, and this class is by default designed to fight close. The caliber is small, so you will need more cartridges to destroy than when using the previous weapon.

M249 SAW

SAW is the successor to the M60 MG. This machine gun is designed for 200 rounds without stopping. You will simply never run out of ammo. The recoil is fairly easy to control, so the weapon looks good when shooting from the hip at medium range. Can be used for suppressive fire while covering your allies. You can wreak havoc on the battlefield. However, you will need a good knowledge of the map and allies covering the flanks.

Mk17 Mod 0

Also called FN SCAR. This is something like a versatile assault rifle. Can also be used as a sniper rifle. As with the G3, there are only 20 rounds in the magazine (3 points can be increased to 30). It is characterized by high accuracy, especially in single-shot mode. However, we recommend using the semi-automatic hip-fire mode. Not as good at close range, but better than the G3.

MK 18 CQBR (Close Quarters Battle Receiver)

A modified, if you like, an evolved version of the M4A1. Strong weapon at close range, looks good at medium range, but has low accuracy when fired from afar. A good assault rifle with an efficiency similar to the M4A1. However, it costs less!

The weapon can do almost anything you want, but its strong characteristics are revealed in close combat. The rifle is equivalent to the M4A1. Except that the accuracy can be slightly worse when shooting from a distance. Incredibly easy to control when shooting from the hip.

M24 sniper rifle

Initially, the weapon was useless, but after reducing the armor, it gained its relevance. As a result, one shot in the chest equals instant death. Since we are talking about a rifle with a repeater, then you will rarely have the opportunity to make a second shot at the same target. Absolutely useless at close range, very good at medium to long range. It is difficult to play as you will need a good knowledge of the map. Use good cover and current range.

Mk14 EBR (Enhanced Battle Rifle)

Alternative to M24. The semi-automatic sniper rifle is effective at all ranges, even at close range (due to the semi-automatic firing mode). However, weapons are very expensive. You need to pay five points for the rifle itself and about 10-12 more for the necessary modifications. There will simply be no “money” for everything else.
