Importance of the 7 Wonders of the World

More specifically known as the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, the following historical constructions have been chosen in a process that began in 2000 and ended in 2007: the Chichen Itza pyramid in Mexico, the Christ the Redeemer of Rio Janeiro in Brazil, the Great Wall in China, Machhu Picchu in Peru, the Petra Gate in Jordan, the Taj Mahal in India and the Colosseum in Italy.

The 7 Wonders of the Modern World are a representative selection of the possibilities of Humanity

To understand the importance of the 7 Wonders of the World we must first remember that there are in the world culture the 7 Wonders of the ancient world, those that many philosophers, thinkers, travelers and historians registered as the most impressive constructions in the known world. These 7 first wonders that were ever known were: the Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (current Iran), the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in present-day Turkey, the Colossus of Rhodes in Greece, the Lighthouse of Alexandria (Egypt ), the statue to Zeus in Olympia (Greece) and the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus (current Turkey).

Unfortunately, many of these wonders have disappeared and it is nowadays impossible to enjoy, know or visit them. That is why in the last years of the 20th century and the first years of the 21st century, real interest arose in establishing new 7 Wonders that could be traveled by all Humanity.

The voting process that was carried out included the direct participation of the people

Unlike what happened with other opportunities, in this case the current world wonders have been chosen by a worldwide available voting process that allowed people from all over the Earth to select their ideal combination of 7 places existing today through the internet .

For this, a preselection of 200 options was carried out that included constructions from all over the world and from all continents, which did not happen with the wonders of the ancient world (because they belonged to the small world known to the peoples of the north). The final selection was announced in Lisbon in 2007, 7 years after the process began.

These sites have become a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are significant tourist centers

One of the main functions of this list is to establish and recognize the greatest and most incredible achievements of Humanity. Many of these constructions (even the preselected ones that were not in the final list) are impressive and to know them in more depth, detailing elements such as the construction process , the historical context, the architectural style, the function that such a construction fulfills, is a part very important that brings us much closer to an increasingly complete understanding of our Humanity.
