How to split screen on windows 10

How to split screen on windows 10.The daily routine of those of us who work in front of a computer is usually to open several screens in the browser, use an email client, a photo or video editing program and surely a spreadsheet and text editor. This results in a huge number of applications working in the background and the cumbersome work of minimizing or maximizing screens to switch from one application to another.

Many times we have to use two or more applications open on the screen simultaneously and generating that mosaic can be a problem to have the applications in an orderly way. At this point, it is necessary to know how to divide the screen, especially now that panoramic monitors are becoming a common tool among people who work several hours with the computer.

Luckily Windows 10 has an installed application called Snap Assist, which allows us to divide the screen in a proportionate way up to 4 divisions. Next, we explain how you can use this function.

How to split the screen with the mouse/How to split screen on windows 10.

If you need two or more windows on the monitor at the same time, you can minimize the screens you want to use and align them manually to try to leave harmonic proportions that allow us to work comfortably. This way of dividing the screen, although it is totally valid, can become quite cumbersome, so we recommend that you make use of the Snap Assist application that will allow you to divide the windows in a really simple way.

Active window settings

The first thing you have to do is define the active window on the monitor. In order to perform this task, you must click on the upper title bar of the window and hold down the mouse button while dragging to the right or left edge of the monitor. The moment you get to one of the two edges, you will see on the screen how Windows will show us a preview of how the window will be fixed. Once you see the preview you must release the mouse button.

If instead of two windows you want to work with four windows, the Windows application allows you to divide the screen into four equal parts. To carry out this action you must click on the upper title bar of the window and again without releasing the button, drag the window to one of the four corners of the screen, that way we will see how Windows shows us a preview of how it will be fixed window. That will be the moment in which we must release the button so that the window is fixed to one of the corners.

Configuration of the rest of the windows

Once we have fixed the active window on one side of the screen, Windows will automatically show us a preview of the thumbnails of the windows that we have open. We click on the thumbnail that we want to set on the screen and Windows will automatically set it in the half of the screen that we had free.

If we want to divide the screen into four parts, we must fix the windows manually by dragging them to the corners and when we do this for the third time, the screen will appear with the thumbnails of the open windows so that we can choose the fourth window that we want to fix on the screen .

How to split the screen with keyboard shortcuts

As we already know, Windows offers a wide variety of keyboard shortcuts with which we can get direct access to many functions. Among them the possibility of dividing the screen, so if you are one of those who prefers to use key combinations instead of working with the keyboard, we will tell you how to perform these actions.

Active window settings

In the same way that when dividing the screen with the mouse we had to establish an active window, here we do it in a similar way, but instead of dragging the window we only have to have the window that we want to fix selected.

To divide the screen we must use the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • If we want to show the active window in the left half of the screen we must press Windows key + left arrow.
  • To display the active window in the right half of the screen, press Windows key + right arrow.
  • If, on the other hand, we want to fix the window in the upper left corner, we must press the key combination Windows key + left arrow and Windows key + up arrow
  • In the same way, if we want to fix the window in the lower left corner, we must press Windows key + left arrow and Windows key + down arrow.
  • If we press Windows key + right arrow and Windows key + up arrow we will fix the window in the upper right part of the screen.
  • And finally to fix the window in the lower right part we must follow the sequence Windows key + right arrow and Windows key + down arrow.

Configuration of the rest of the windows

If you have set the active window on the right or left side of the screen in the space that remains free, Windows will show us the thumbnails of the windows that we can select. To select the window that we want to fix on one of the sides, we can move with the arrows between the windows, we will know in which window we stop because it is marked with a white box. Once we have marked the window that we want to set, we press the Enter key.

If you have set the active window in one of the corners, the system will not show you the thumbnails of the screens, so you must navigate between the open windows by pressing the Alt + Tab key combination That way we can move between the open windows to select the window we want to fix. Once selected we will have it in full screen so we must use the keyboard shortcut to place it in the desired corner. We must repeat this operation until we have the four windows fixed.
