Remove ads from Google Chrome

To be able to stop seeing advertisements on the pages you visit, as well as on social networks, in Chrome you have several options. These can work both partially and permanently:

Remove ads using settings menu

Perhaps the ads that cause the most discomfort when browsing are pop-ups.

These types of ads are displayed automatically when a file or link is clicked, opening a new tab in which the advertising content is found.

It is one of the methods most frequently used by attackers. In this way, they can make you download malicious software on your computer.

Because of this, they should be removed, not only because of the inconvenience they cause, but also as a security measure to prevent Trojan virus infections and keep your computer safe.

Among the options to customize Chrome is the one to block pop-up windows, which, in general, are activated by default. In case it is not enabled, follow these steps:

From the computer

  • Enter Chrome and click on the three points that are in the upper right corner.
  • Select the Settings option.
  • Then you must select the Advanced Settings section, and there mark the Privacy and security option.
  • Click on the Site Settings option and there click on Pop-up windows and redirects.
  • In order to disable pop-ups, slide the button that appears until it says Blocked (recommended).

From the mobile with Android

  • Open the Chrome browser on your mobile.
  • Next, click on the three points that are located just to the right of the address bar.
  • Then click on Settings.
  • Once there, select the Site Settings option and then Pop-ups and Redirects.
  • When you are inside the option, press to be able to block pop-ups.

From iOS devices

  • Sign in to Chrome on your device.
  • Then click on the three points that are located in the upper right part of the screen, and there click on Settings.
  • There select the option Content settings and then Block pop-up windows.
  • A window will open from where you will be able to deactivate the pop-ups.

When you perform these procedures on any of the operating systems, Chrome automatically blocks pop-up windows from any site you visit. Keep in mind that not all pop-up pop-ups are spam.

On certain pages, such as those of banks, content is displayed through this type of window. To allow pop-ups, tap the pop-ups icon in the search bar, and then tap Allow.

Block unwanted ads

If you are browsing a website and an ad appears that you are not interested in or do not want to see, you have the option to block it from seeing it. Follow these steps to block unwanted ads:

  • First, before blocking, you must know if you are inside a Google service or on a page that uses its services.
  • If you are in Google services, you just have to click on the ad information icon. There you have two options: report it or notify that you want to stop seeing it.
  • If it’s not a Google site, the ads have an x, located in the upper right corner. You also have the option to report the file or just stop viewing it.

Disable personalized ads

The ads that are presented in the browser when you are on a website are personalized. These are selected according to different details that the browser knows about you, such as your personal data (mainly age, gender and location).

The activity you carry out on different websites is also taken into account, as well as the searches you have done and the interactions with the ads. Once all the data is collected, Google personalizes the ads, in order to make them interesting for you.

If this situation bothers you and you want to know how to remove the ads that appear in Chrome, you must follow some steps, since this advertising can be disabled:

  • Sign in from your active Google account to the page where you can turn off ads, called Ad Settings.
  • Within this page you can find out what data, categories and information Google takes into account to show personalized ads.
  • Then select where you want the changes to be applied, whether on all the devices from which you accessed or the browser, for which you do not need to access your account.
  • Another option presented to you is to disable personalization for the browser by installing the Interest-Based Ads Opt Outextension .

Once you’ve taken these steps, Google will no longer be able to use your information to show personalized ads. You will be shown advertisements that may be based on your location data or the content of the websites you visit.

Remove notifications from a website

Chrome offers you the option that you can configure the notifications you receive from websites, applications and extensions. You can block or allow in a totally personal way which are the ones that interest you, and it is done from a page that is enabled for it:

  • To get to that page, click on the three dots that open the configuration options.
  • When you enter, in the search engine enter the word Notifications.
  • Upon entering you will have access to a page where you can block or allow notifications site by site.
  • You can also select the actions to take with the new websites you enter. In this case, the sites will ask you if you want them to send you notifications.

free ad blocking apps

Another option that you have available are the applications or extensions that work by blocking all the ads that may appear on the pages you enter.
