Gluten-free churros recipe for celiacs

Ingredients:

  • 200 g of rice or corn flour
  • 200 ml of water
  • 1 spoon of sugar
  • 60g butter
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon gluten-free yeast
  • Oil for frying

Preparation of gluten-free churros:

  1. Before starting the preparation of the gluten-free homemade churros, it is important to specify that you can use rice or corn flour, that is, Maizena. You can choose the one you like the most or the one with which you are most familiar both for the taste and for the convenience to prepare the dough. In any case, if you wish, you can mix both and add 100 g of each type.
  2. When you have the flour ready, put the water to heat over medium heat with the butter. And remember for your later recipes that butter is a gluten-free food, so you can use it whenever you want to add that characteristic and delicious touch. Also add a pinch of salt and mix well.
  3. Following the recipe for gluten-free churros for celiacs, and while the water is heating up with the butter, mix the flour with the yeast and sugar in a different container. If you prefer to add the sugar at the end of the preparation, you can do without it in this step, otherwise they could be too sweet.
  4. Once we have the boiling water, remove the saucepan from the heat before adding the previous mixture of flour, yeast and sugar (if you choose to add it). Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon or spatula to get all the ingredients to be well integrated. At this point, you should bear in mind that gluten-free flours are more expensive to work with, so don’t worry if it takes a few minutes to mix the ingredients evenly.
  5. If you want the churros to acquire the perfect consistency, you should let the dough rest for a few minutes. Meanwhile, take a large frying pan and add plenty of oil for frying, which can be both olive and sunflower. You should fill the pan with about two inches high or so and put it over medium heat.
  6. With the hot oil, place the gluten-free churros dough in a pastry bag and shape your homemade churros as you add them to the pan. To do this, you can use a star-shaped nozzle to get the traditional shape of the churros. If you don’t have a piping bagyou can cut a pick from a plastic bag to use as a substitute for the piping bag . If you consider it necessary, lower the heat a little and fry the churros until they are golden brown on both sides.
  7. You can place a container with absorbent paper to place the churros and eliminate excess oil. Finally, if you wantadd sugar on top to decorate while they are still hot.

As you have seen, the preparation of gluten-free churros for celiacs is very similar to the traditional one, and the flavor will be very similar. Do not miss the following recipe, it is also suitable for gluten intolerant.
