Microsoft Publisher is a publishing application, its main use is to create and design content for print or online publication . It is very easy to create a brochure with Publisher , thanks to pre-designed templates or created from scratch by you and all the tools it provides.

How can I create a brochure to design my tri-fold in Publisher?

You must first download and install Office 365 if it is not already installed. The easiest way to make a brochure is to use a pre-designed template as it makes the editing process easier however you can make your own templates.

Brochure Creation

  • Open the Publisher application from your pc.
  • Select the horizontally shaped sheet that says “Blank 11x 8.5in.”
  • Click on the “Page Layout” tab
  • To put the guides of a triptych click on the margins option and then click on “custom margins”
  • Then you must click on the “Grid Guides” taband in the column section place number 3 and in the row section place number 1, if you want to remove the margins you can do so by clicking on margins and selecting the option “None”.

Change of design

  • Click “Page Layout” and then click “Change Template.”
  • Then click on the tab that says “Home Page”
  • Select the option that says “Brochures”
  • Then you can choose between the predesigned designs that Publisher has, you just have to select the one you like the most and click accept to then start designing your brochure.
  • If you want to replace the text or any graphics in the template, just right-click the text or graphic box and then click “Remove Text” or “Change Image”.

What Publisher tools can we use to customize our brochure?

Once you have predefined the page layout of your brochure, it’s time to design and customize the content of your brochure: to do this, go to the “Insert” tab where you will find all the necessary tools.

  • If you select the “Borders and accents”option you will find some patterns that you can use.
  • If you want to add ads select the “Ads”option where you will find some pre-designed designs.
  • You can also find more options by selecting “Page elements”there is a wide variety of designs to insert into your brochure, if you click you will have the options to insert articles, sidebars, quotes and titles, where you can choose the one you want, select it and it will be inserted in your brochure, in addition, you can find many more if you click on “More page designs”.

Where can I find templates to use for my Publisher brochure?

  • Sign in to the Publisher app
  • Go to the office search bar and type “Brochure”and you can choose one of the predesigned templates that Publisher has, just click on the one you like the most and then click accept to open the template. If you want to go back to the home page, just click “File” and then “New”.
  • Another option to find templates is by clicking on “New”
  • Then click where it says “Integrated”. 
  • Select the “Brochures” option and then click on a template from the category that is most suitable for you.
  • When you open a template, you’ll be presented with options to change the template’s colors, fonts, text, and graphics.

What other platforms can I use to make brochures online?

One of the most used online platforms to make brochures is Canva, because you can design incredible brochures and also offer a wide variety of pre-designed templates. You can also use other platforms, such as the following:

  • Adobe Online.
  • Online printing.

Word

  • Open a new Word document.
  • To change the page orientation to landscape, click the “Layout” tab and select “Direction,” and then click “Landscape.”
  • In the “Page Layout” tab, click “Margins”and you can customize the margins.
  • To divide a Microsoft Word sheetinto three columns, click on the “Format ” tab and then click on “Columns” and enter #3.
  • Then start adding content you want to your brochure.
  • Remember that you must create two pages, one for the outside and one for the inside of your brochure.

PowerPoint

To make or create a good triptych, diptych or brochure in PowerPoint, you can use the predesigned templates that the application already has, or you can do it manually. For this, you must follow these steps:

  • Open PowerPoint and select a blank template.
  • Then click on the “Insert” tab and select a table with three columns and one row.
  • Duplicate the slide to make the inside and outside of the tri-fold.
  • Edit the brochure and customize it by adding images and graphics
