How to have unlimited storage in my Google Photos account?

Since the new Google regulations were implemented, now we can only have space up to 15 GB for free , but it is also important that this storage space is shared between all Google applications, such as only Google Photos, Gmail, Google Drive .

If you want to expand your storage, you will need to subscribe to Google One to buy more storage, you will be able to choose from the variety of storage plans offered by the platform.

But if you don’t want to pay a monthly fee for more storage, what you can do is use the photo storage management tool to free up Google Photos space , and to do so you need to delete photos or videos, which take up too much storage space.

What can I do to free up space on Google Photos?

If you want to free up more space in Google Photos, use methods that will allow you to save space on your Google account storage. One of the things you can do to save space is to save photos without taking up space, change the quality of saved images, you can also delete blurred or duplicate images from Google account .

Save photos without taking up space

The way you can save photos to Google Photos without taking up space is if you transfer those photos to the Trash folder , this is because images stored in the Trash don’t take up space on your storage plan. However once you transfer the images to the trash folder they will be stored for 60 days.

This allows users to recover a mistakenly deleted photo . In the event that you have transferred your images to the trash folder but you need to keep some, you only have to restore the images from the Google Photos trash bin and you can have them back in your photo gallery.

Change quality of stored images

One of the methods that you can use so that your photos do not consume so much space is by changing the quality of the stored images, which you can do by compressing your images. To do this you must access your account and go to the settings section, then you must click on the “Space recovery” tab.

In the “Space recovery” section you can reduce the size of the photos or images that are stored in Google Photos. Then select the image or photo to compress and click on the “Compress” option and then you will have to click on “Compress” again to confirm that you want to apply size reduction.

Delete blurred or duplicate images

Another way to reduce the space of your Google Photos account is by deleting blurry images, and you can do it using the new Google Photos tool that automatically detects blurry photos.

To use this tool you must enter your Google Photos account, and go to the “Review and delete” section. Then you should check if there are any blurry photos in the list, select the photos you want to delete and then click the delete button.

You can also remove duplicate images from your Google photos account and to do so you must perform the following steps:

  1. Open the “Google Files” app on your device.
  2. Go to the bottom of your screen, and press the “Delete” button.
  3. In the ‘ Duplicate Files’section , and then hit the ‘Select Files’ option.
  4. Then you must choose the files you want to delete.
  5. At the bottom, you will have to press the “Delete” button and a dialog box will be displayed.
  6. Finally, you must press the “Delete” option again, to confirm that you want to delete the photo you have selected.

Why do I delete photos and no space is freed up in Google Photos?

One of the reasons why your storage is still full after deleting photos is because  the size of the images is very small , so the freed space will be minimal or almost unnoticeable. The files occupy space in the Google account by their weight, not by their quantity, which means that if the deleted photos are light, not enough space will be freed.

If the space freed is very little, then the problem probably comes from other files. It is important to remember that a Google account does not only store photos, but all the files in an account share the same storage space

If, after you have deleted photos that have a greater amount of weight, you still have storage problems, it may be a fault that you are presenting in your account, so you should contact Google support.
