How to free up space on WhatsApp

Whatsapp groups can go crazy with memes and videos. All these media take up valuable storage space on your iPhone or Android phone, therefore, here we will explain how to free up space on WhatsApp.

How to Free Up Space on WhatsApp Quickly and Easily

It is a process similar to freeing space on the PC’s hard drive or recovering or freeing up RAM memory to increase performance, only now applied to WhatsApp.

Here we explain how you can reduce WhatsApp storage space without deleting the application . WhatsApp has an integrated storage management tool for Android, iPhone, etc.

With the tool, you can quickly see which conversation is taking up the most storage space , and then individually enter and delete different types of media. For example, you can only delete videos from a group chat.

Reduce WhatsApp storage space on Android

You will find the storage management tool in the configuration section. Open the WhatsApp application on your Android smartphone and tap the three-dot menu button.

  • Tap the Menu button on the toolbar
  • Here, tap on the ” Settings ” option .
  • Now, select where it says ” Data and storage “.
  • Here, you will see a ” Storage Usage ” section. It will tell you how much storage space WhatsApp uses on your Android smartphone.

Once you tap on the “Storage Usage” section, you will see a list of all WhatsApp conversations, sorted by the amount of storage space they occupy. Later on, you can even change the default WhatsApp storage easily.

Select a chat or conversation that is at the top of the list. Here you will see how many text messages, images, videos and GIFs are associated with the conversation.

Now just select the option “Free up space” found in the lower right corner of the window.

  • In this window what you will do is, select the mark next to the type of media you want to delete and then, touch the button « Delete elements «.
  • From the popup, touch the ” Delete messages ” option .

Messages and media will be removed from WhatsApp storage , and you will get the storage space back. This way you can free up space on WhatsApp.

Reduce WhatsApp Storage Space on iPhone

The process of reducing WhatsApp storage space on iPhone is slightly different .

  • On the iPhone, open the WhatsApp application and go to the ” Settings ” tab .
  • Select the option « Data usage and storage «
  • Now, scroll down and hit the ” Storage Usage ” option .
  • Touch the “Storage usage” option.

Now you will see a list of all WhatsApp conversations, ordered from largest to smallest according to the space that each conversation occupies.

Tap on a conversation to see details about its storage space usage. At the bottom of the screen, tap the “Manage” button.

  • Tap the « Manage « button .
  • Now, select the types of media you want to remove.
  • Touch the media type to select it
  • From there, tap on the ” Clear ” button .
  • Click on the ” Delete ” button .
  • Tap the ” Delete ” button in the pop-up message once more to confirm.
  • Press the Delete button again to confirm

Now, the relevant data will be removed from WhatsApp storage, and you can get back the storage space .

You can go to Settings> General> iPhone Storage to check the available storage on your iPhone.

On Windows Phone (individual chats)

To perform the process on phones or devices with the Windows Phone operating system , you must perform the following procedure:

Go to selected person / group> More> Clear chat history> Everyone / Older than 30 days / Older than six months.

It is not a perfect solution, but if you need to free up space , it could be the solution you need.

If you use WhatsApp as your main messaging service, you should know that you can disable the auto-save feature for incoming media.

Once you have eliminated the unnecessary conversations, we recommend that you disable the auto-save and auto-download features in the settings.

In this way, you will save having to repeatedly delete WhatsApp conversations. In case you have deleted a conversation by mistake and want to recover it, do not worry, at miracomosehace we have the solution.
