There are many devices that we can connect to our network. We are not only talking about computers, but also about printers, NAS hard drives and many other equipment. Windows 10 is undoubtedly the most used operating system today on computers. However sometimes problems can arise when we are going to connect a new unit. We are going to talk about this in this article. We are going to explain how to fix the problem when we cannot map a new network drive in Windows 10.
Problem mapping a new network drive in Windows
The normal thing is that when we want to assign a new network drive to our Windows system it is a simple and fast process. As long as no problems arise, there should be nothing to prevent us from connecting it quickly.
However, sometimes there can be problems. For example if we have recently updated the operating system and it has generated some kind of conflict. Fix the problem when mapping a network drive
The first thing we have to do to try to correct the problem when we are going to map a network drive in Windows 10 and it gives us an error is to start the Windows + R key combination and run regedit. In this way we go to the Windows Registry Editor to modify some values.
Once we are inside we have to navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER , we go to Network and there we will find the network drive. You have to right click with the mouse and click Delete.
Once this is done we have to go to the path EquipoHKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerMap Network Drive MRU. There we can see different entries and we have to delete them. We give it again with the second mouse button and Delete.
When we carry out this step we go back to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, we enter Network and there, giving the second mouse button, we create a new key to which we will give the value D. Later we click on D and we give New, DWORD Value ( 32 bits). We give this value the name ProviderFlags. We double click and assign the value 1 .
After having carried out these steps that we mentioned, we should be able to map a network drive without problems in Windows 10.
Increase in network connected devices
Keep in mind that we have more and more computers connected to the network . We no longer have only computers and mobiles, but there are many more devices that in one way or another connect to our network.
An example of these computers that we mentioned connected to the network are NAS hard drives . They are very useful for storing all kinds of files and having them available anywhere. We can create backup copies to protect ourselves from the loss of information that could occur in the event that our system is infected by a ransomware attack, for example. We can also free up space or simply have it available to access from any computer.
These devices can generally be connected in a very simple and fast way, as we have indicated. But sometimes an update to the operating system could lead to problems that we can solve in the way we have explained. Thus we will be able to add that network drive to Windows 10 without problems, something that as we say has increased in recent years.
