How To Fix “The connection has been interrupted”

If on any occasion the message that indicates that the connection has been interrupted has appeared , we are going to tell you how to try to solve it and why it may appear, although this last question is more complicated to answer with something in particular because it has several causes.

This message appears in the Google Chrome browser and surely it has appeared on more than one occasion, but it is likely that you have not realized it because various errors appear in said browser for various reasons and it is impossible to learn what to do at all times.

There are certain actions to carry out to try to solve that Chrome error so that you can navigate correctly using this browser, so let’s go through all of them, we recommend that you try one by one until you find the definitive solution.

Check that you have an Internet connection

It may happen that you do not have an Internet connection and that when you enter Chrome you will see that message that warns that the connection has been interrupted, so the first thing to check is if you have an Internet connection , something that you can try in several ways.

For example, check that the network icon next to the clock is shaped like oval stripes in case you are connected via WiFi or from a wired computer if you are connected via cable. If a ball appears with an x, you don’t have the Internet.

Clear cache and cookies

Chrome allows you to clear the cache and cookies , also all passwords and browsing history, but in this case we are going to choose only the first two possibilities. What these two actions do is that later you will have to log in again, some websites will be slower at the beginning, etc.

It is not too much of a problem and at the same time you can solve a problem, so follow these steps to delete said data:

  • With Chrome open, press the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Del, one followed by the other, and the window to delete the browsing data will open.
  • Check only the boxes “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached files and images” , the rest leave them unchecked. In the drop-down list “time” select “forever” and click “clear data” , wait a few seconds, restart Chrome and try again to enter any web page to see if it works now.

Disable extensions

The Chrome connection error could be due to some extension that you have installed in the browser, so a possible solution is to deactivate the extensions one by one to see if the incidence of the connection interruption resides here and would be causing it some extension.

Deactivating them is easy, just click on the icon of the three vertical dots that you see in the upper right section, then go to more tools / extensions and once inside the extensions gallery, go unchecking the blue box to disable them.

Try browsing incognito mode

The incognito Chrome lets you navigate your browsing history is saved, but it is practically the same as doing in normal mode, but with that difference and some others you see when you open the private mode, because the browser informative.

Therefore, if you can navigate without problems, then there may be an internal problem in the browser for an unknown reason and a good option to try would be to remove Chrome from the computer and reinstall it, as we indicate below.

Uninstall and install Chrome

As a more radical solution to try to solve that connection interruption error, try uninstalling Chrome from your computer , either through the option to add or remove Windows programs or through specialized software such as Revouninstaller.

Then all you have to do is use another browser to download Google Chrome again, so you can check if there was a root problem that can only be solved with this step.

Try another browser

As a last solution, if you already see that none of the above options works for you, it is best that you consider changing the browser , for example, two very good options to Chrome are Microsoft Edge or also Firefox, both facilitate importing data from Chrome .

At the level of operation and interface, Edge is much closer to it, so it may be the perfect time to give it the opportunity, although if you want something different you always have Firefox. It is a matter of taste and of seeing which one you like the most and that fits your needs.

Other small solutions

If switching browsers is not an option for you, before switching to Chrome, try these little solutions if none of the above works for you, to see if the connection interruption message stops appearing:

  • Restart the router: it is worth restarting your router to see if the connection is restored and you can navigate well through Chrome. Many routers have an on / off button, but if it doesn’t, just unplug it and plug it back in after several seconds.
  • Restart your computer – Sometimes a simple restart of your computer can fix these types of errors, so be sure to try it out.
  • Empty DNS cache: to empty the DNS cache of the PC, press the Windows + Q keys, type CMD and enter that utility and then execute the command ipconfig / flushdns.
  • Reset TCP / IP protocol: entering CMD with the steps in the previous point, execute the command ipconfig / release and after a few seconds the command ipconfig / renew. Then, in order, type and run these commands one by one: nbtstat –r, netsh int ip reset, and netsh winsock reset.
  • Update Chrome: a simple browser update could be the best solution, just go to Chrome, click on the three dots icon at the top right and go to Google Chrome help / information. Verify that you have the latest version.
  • Pass the antivirus: as you are sure you have an antivirus, it is worth opening it and performing a full scan with Chrome closed to see if this will solve the error.
  • Change the DNS: changing the Windows DNS is an option that you should not stop trying, so put Google’s and try again to see if you now browse normally in Chrome.
