There are many services and processes that work cooperatively to provide the best user experience on Windows 10 . Many of them are still unknown and unknown to most Windows users. When users open Task Manager and see anonymous ones, they feel curious and worried at the same time. In this post, I will report on one of these lesser known processes, the ActionUri OOP Server . Then I’ll explain how to fix ActionUri OOP server always running in background .

So, let’s go further to eliminate your curiosity with this article.

What is the ActionUri OOP server?

When I was surfing the internet trying to collect data, I found many forums and blogs where people were wondering what ActionUri OOP Server is . Windows users randomly or intentionally go through Task Manager and find this ActionUri OOP Server process running continuously. Out of curiosity, they begin to think if this process is safe or harmful, or if it is necessary or not. Some users even wonder if it is a virus or spyware.

If you are one of the users who came here to learn about the Action Uri OOP Server process, you have landed in the right place. Here is your answer .

ActionUri OOP Server is a server process used by Cortana . It is used to send the required data to Microsoft . The process is completely safe and harmless. When you find it running, you don’t have to worry that it is spyware. However, you can still disable it if you want to stop the execution and stop consuming CPU resources. Since Cortana always keeps running in the background, this process keeps running as well. So it may be a valid option to disable it if you want. I will guide you with that.

Fix ActionUri OOP Server always keeps running in background?

Continuous execution of Cortana’s ActionUri OOP server process can sometimes lead to system slowdown or hang. To avoid this, you can simply disable the ActionUri OOP server using the 2 best methods I present to you. It would not harm your system as the process is not vital for your Windows 10 computer. Also, the methods are very simple and any casual user can follow the simplified steps to apply the methods. Let’s move on to the 2 best solutions to fix the problem.

1. Disable the ActionUri OOP server with Registry Editor

You can use Registry Editor to disable Cortana and consequently disable the ActionUri OOP server. Follow these steps to learn how:

Step 1: Press Windows Key + R to activate the Run dialog . Type  regedit  and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.

Step 2: The Editor of the registry , go to the following directory:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows Windows Search

Note: If you have trouble navigating to the address, just follow these:

  • Find and double click  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE  from the left pane.
  • Next, find and double-click  SOFTWARE  from the left pane.
  • Now find and double click  Policies  in the left pane.
  • Then find and double-click  Microsoft  from the left panel.
  • Finally, double click on  Windows  from the left panel.

Step 3:   Now find and click on  Windows Search  present on the left panel.

Note:  If there is no entry named Windows Search, you must create it yourself. Follow these to do it

  • Right click  on  Windows  (from the left panel)
  • Choose  New  >  Key
  • Now just call it  Windows Search .

Now just choose  Windows Search  and  right click  on the right side panel, choose  New  ->  DWORd Value (32 bit)  and keep its name as AllowCortana.

Step 4: Now double click  AllowCortana  present in the right pane.

Step 5:  Then type   in the section Information on the  value and click  OK.

Step 6: Restart your computer and check Task Manager now.

Remember that this will only disable Cortana, the personal assistant, and not the Cortana process (SearchUI.exe) used by Windows Search. Also, I would recommend not disabling the Cortana process.

2. Stop ActionUri OOP server with Windows firewall

As the ActionUri OOP server starts when Cortana needs to send information to Microsoft , creating rules in Windows Firewall that do not allow Cortana to access the Internet will prevent resource consumption. You can create rules in the Windows Firewall advanced settings to prevent the ActionUri OOP server from sending or receiving information. The downside to this method is that it will also prevent Cortana from using the web for searches. Follow these steps to learn how:

Step 1: Press Windows Key + R to access the Run dialog . Enter  firewall. cpl  on it and hit Enter .

Step 2: Now click on  Advanced Settings.

Step 3: Then please click  Inbound Rules  present in the left pane.

Step 4: then choose  New rule …

Step 5: Check the Schedule circle and click Next .

Step 6: Next, choose the This program path  option  and enter the following address in this path:

% SystemRoot% SystemApps Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy ActionUriServer.exe

Alternatively, you   can click the Browse button and navigate to the following location:  C: Drive> Windows> System Applications> Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy>  Select  ActionUriServer.exe,  and then click  Open.

Step 7: Click Next .

Step 8: Choose the Block connection option   and click  Next.

Step 9: Now  check  all the boxes ( Domain ,  Private  and  Public ) and click  Next.

Step 10: Then, write ActionUri in the Name section . This name will be used to identify the rule, in case you want to disable it. Finally, click Finish .

Step 11: Now go back and select Outbound Rules .. . Follow the steps of the 4 to the 10 and stop outbound Internet access to ActionUri.

Done.

Summary

ActionUri OOP Server is a Cortana related process in Windows 10 used to send and receive information to Microsoft . It is nothing to worry about. However, if you want, you can disable it. These were the 2 best methods to disable the process.
