How to connect the Mi Band

Xiaomi Mi Band fitness bracelets are very popular, so we are going to teach you how to connect this range of wearables with your mobile , which has evolved technically, but whose configuration and connection process remains almost identical.

Therefore, this tutorial works for the Mi Band 4, 3, 2 and the original model, apart from variants such as the Xiaomi Mi Band 1S. Of course, some parts change depending on the version, because little by little screens have been integrated that facilitate interaction.

Comparison: Xiaomi Mi Band 4 vs Mi Band 3

Before starting we have to download Mi Fit, the official app , essential to connect the Mi Band to an Android or iPhone:

  • Download Mi Fit for Android
  • Download Mi Fit for iPhone

The application will offer a lot of useful information about our physical activity, sleep and training , apart from allowing the configuration of the Mi Band.

Actually, we do not need to look at the application again after connecting the wearable if we do not want to, but it is quite complete, so we advise you to take a look.

Initial configuration of the Mi Band

The most common thing is that we want to connect a bracelet that we have just bought to our smartphone , so let’s see the steps once we take it out of the box:

  • First of all, it is advisable to charge the Mi Band , which could come without a battery. We will place it on the charging cable, checking that the metal pins match, and we will use a mobile charger or USB port of a computer (the charger does not come with the Mi Band).
  • We will go to the mobile settings to confirm that Bluetooth is activated (although the app will notify us if it is off).
  • Now we open the Mi Fit app, we must enter the username and password of our Xiaomi account , or create a new one. It is possible to use Facebook or a Google account instead, although we will be sharing more personal data.
  • We have to accept a series of permissions regarding the use of the Xiaomi account:
  • As soon as we open the application, it will ask us to accept the legal conditions and various permissions, including the location, which is mandatory to connect the bracelet:
  • We will now be on the main screen, we must press the “+” symbol in the upper right corner to connect devices:
  • In the menu that appears we choose “Bracelet” , because we are going to link a Mi Band, and the mobile will start looking for it:
  • We must keep the Mi Band close to the mobile at all times and, if we have the Mi Band 2 or 3, the screen will indicate “Tap the button” (“Press the button” in English) to confirm the connection:
  • If we have a Mi Band 4 we must press the check symbol (☑️) on the touch screen to confirm, in the case of the original Mi Band we will only wait for the connection to be made (it does not have a screen or buttons).
  • Now a message will indicate “Linked successfully” and we will have already configured the Mi Band on the mobile:
  • As a final step, a short tutorial with text and illustrations will explain the basic operation of our Xiaomi Mi Band model:

We have already finished connecting the Mi Band, but we can continue exploring its settings: app notifications, call alerts, daily step goal, sedentary lifestyle warnings, heart rate monitoring …

Although they seem very simple devices, the Xiaomi Mi Band integrates many functions, and it is worth spending a few minutes adjusting it from the app to our liking.

Connection issues? This is how the Mi Band is reset

One of the most common problems when connecting the Mi Band is that the mobile does not detect it . Even with Bluetooth on, it keeps looking and can’t find it.

This is common if the Mi Band has been used before , but it can also happen on a new one. Resetting or factory resetting settings will usually fix problems.

Each Mi Band model requires a specific process, so let’s see them all:

  • In the case of the Mi Band 4 we do the reset from the bracelet itself in this menu:

More -> Settings -> Factory reset -> ☑️ (confirm)

  • With the Mi Band 3 the steps are quite similar, also on its own screen:

More -> Factory reset -> Press and hold central button

  • If we have the Mi Band 2 or the original Mi Band we will need to access a menu of the app:

Profile -> Mi Band -> Unlink

  • In all cases, after resetting the device, we can follow the initial configuration steps that we have explained in the previous section. The message “Pair device first” appears on the screen to indicate this:

The system to reset the Mi Band 3 and 4 is effective, so no problem should arise, except if it suffers a breakdown.

Unfortunately, on the Mi Band 2 and the original Mi Band the process is impractical. We can only reset if the bracelet is linked to the Mi Fit app , which is just what we want to do.

An alternative, if we own a second-hand unit and know its previous owner, is to ask him to delete it from his account so that it returns to factory settings.

Finally, we may want to connect the Mi Band to other applications , so that the device collects the data, but we can view it in our preferred service. For example, synchronize the Mi Band with Google Fit , among other options.

Or do without the official app, and use Notify & Fitness for Mi Band as an alternative to Mi Fit , which adds interesting extra functions.

In any case, after connecting the Mi Band with the official software, there are many possibilities to take advantage of it , and it is worth trying them.
